Bugzilla – Bug 139580
File changed on Disk when it is not true - very often
Last modified: 2005-12-16 12:40:47 UTC
Hi, I submitted a bug to KDE (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118436) but they closed saying it was a problem with SuSE's kernel, so I'm submitting the bug here. The problem appeared to me so far in Kile, Kdevelop, Quanta, Kate and Kwrite. Whenever I open a file in any of these applications, if I leave the application opened for a few minutes (the number of minutes varies), it will say that the file was changed on disk, although that is not true. If I ask to see the differences, it says that a line was deleted (the last line, usually an empty one). However, pressing ignore or overwrite results in the same file I allways had, with no changes. Imagine having 10 files opened in kdevelop (or kwrite) and suddenly all appear has being modified on disk...it becomes impossible to work. On the KDE bug system they recommended to use a kernel from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd , but it wasn't clear to me what to install, and I didn't think that updating to kernel 2.6.15 would be a good idea. So I was hoping that a kernel update through YOU could be possible, since this probably is affecting many users. I'm using SuSE Linux 10.0 with all the YOU updates and (supplementary) KDE 3.5.
