Bugzilla – Bug 141109
CD/DVD ROM locks
Last modified: 2006-11-14 15:33:10 UTC
[ this bug was found in OpenSuSE 10.1 __ALPHA__ 3!!! but there is such option on the list ] Dell Latitude D610, internal CD-DVD ROM drive, KDE 3.4.2. I cannot exectly repeat it since it seems a random accident. After using CD/DVD disc I am unable to open drive (no activities on disc) or after booting system and working for a while I am also unable to open drive (the drive is empty). When I try "eject /media/dvd" in such situations eject hangs up (not entire system!) -- even ctrl+c doesn't help.
Alpha 3 is Preview 3 - adjusting product.
This does not seem to be a kernel problem. I would assume there is some application that is still accessing the device, preventing it from being ejected.
Well I don't know for sure it is the kernel fault -- it is just an assumption, maybe it is submount fault. I don't know how to verify this. If the drive is empty how you can mount&lock the drive? And even if it the case I listed all the mounted drives and there was no CD drive on the list. When I tried: umount /media/dvd I got message: umount: /media/dvd is not mounted (according to mtab) I repeat -- sometimes it happens when there is actually disc in the drive, sometimes when the drive is empty (and since booting there was no disc).
Can you test this with SUSE Linux 10.1 Beta8 again? Much has be changed in this area since then...
> Can you test this with SUSE Linux 10.1 Beta8 again? Much has be changed in > this area since then... I am a bit afraid of downloading the whole distro just to check if locking is fixed -- is there any other way? Since then I updated kernel, kde. Is there anything I can update more to get de facto 10.1B8?
Se pierde la entrada en fstab, por lo tanto no es posible acceder a ningun medio extraible de tipo CD.

submount was dropped from 10.1. Alpha3 is a little bit too outdated ...
