Bugzilla – Bug 141130
kinternet not installed automatically
Last modified: 2006-01-03 12:12:32 UTC
Hi, on an installation where Gnome was chosen as the desktop environment, kinternet was missing after configuring the smart modem device. It had to be installed manually.
Martin, who installs kinternet package? Yast? Or some package selection?
The modem module of YaST will run kinternet if it is installed, but it will not install it. I suppose that it is present in the KDE selection but not in the GNOME one. Standa, is there another program in GNOME that handles it? Anyway, SL 10.1 should use NetworkManager for both environments.
Not having KDE applications in GNOME selection and vice versa is a wanted feature, not a bug. Calling kinternet from YaST in GNOME-only system is a bug. If you tell me, what kinternet does in YaST, I can try suggest any GNOME replacement. GNOME has modemlighs applet, wireless monitor, (dropped) netapplet and (in 10.1) NetworkManager. To make modemlights-applet working, one have to predefine "internet on" and "internet off" commands. Not having modemlights applet in 10.0 is a bug 130370.
OK, I think the original report is not a bug. Alexander, you can reopen if you have another suggestion.
