Bugzilla – Bug 142758
Can not set hostname if NetworkManager is enabled.
Last modified: 2006-02-07 17:50:53 UTC
This is with factory from 2006-01-11, similar to preview4: My hostname is set to "linux" using networkmanager, it is not set to the name received via dhcp.
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 134160 ***
problem still persists in Beta3 of NLD10, no nis used as in the scenario of 134160 local user, no NIS, no NFS ... nothing fancy, but hostname is plain "linux"
Yes, we have recently discussed this on suse-network. YaST currently does not provide any GUI bits to set the hostname (not manually, not using DHCP) if NM is enabled. We definitly need this. Chaning Summary. Moving to Beta3. Raising severity.
If NetworkManager is enabled we need to provide a dialog in YaST which contains the first box of the "Hostname and Name Server Configuration" of the "Detailed Settings/Hostname and Nameserver" dialog as found for the traditional setup. This will give the user the ability to - set a custom hostname and (or) domainname - set hostname using DHCP as NetworkManager is already prepared to respect DHCLIENT_SET_HOSTNAME (/etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp) Reassigning.
See also the discussion following this: http://mailman.suse.de/mlarch//SuSE/suse-network/2006/suse-network.2006.02/msg00005.html Andreas, OK to add the hostname dialog to the main workflow, like it is on SLES already?
Okayed on the mailing list.
