Description Rodney Dawes 2006-01-17 20:48:43 UTC
When playing back variable bitrate MP3 files in either RealPlayer or Banshee with the Helix engine in use, the playback ends abruptly toward the end of the track. This seems to be a RealPlayer specific issue, as gstreamer and bmp do not seem to exhibit this behavior. I believe it is a problem with the way RealPlayer is calculating the length of the audio in the MP3 file.

are you sure that this will happen with all vbr files? (works for me)

anyway, i'm not sure if this isn't a bug for upstream.
Comment 2 Rodney Dawes 2006-01-18 17:08:23 UTC
It happens with every MP3 that I have on my iPod. I am reporting it here, because it is the only place that I know of to report it.
Comment 3 Martin Lasarsch 2006-01-23 10:40:22 UTC
Stanislav: what do you think, can we do something about that issue? If not please close the bug.
Comment 4 Stanislav Brabec 2006-01-23 12:35:08 UTC
We use binary files from Real without any change. Please fill Helix Player problems to https://bugs.helixcommunity.org/ (Helix Player uses the same code base as RealPlayer).

In default setup, Banshee uses helix engine to play MP3, too.

BMP and GStreamer are not able to play MP3 in default installation - you have to use a third party packages, but in general these are not using Helix engine (with possible exception of using GStreamer module for Helix/Real codecs.

I suggest to close as WONTFIX (CANTFIX) here. Please report upstream and optionally add a reference to the upstream bug here.
