Blan screen after install on Dell D600
Last modified: 2006-01-27 17:09:02 UTC
After installing sles10.1b1 onto my d600, there is no X display, the screen is blank. I've tried init 3, and then ran sax2 -l and it's not made any differences I will attach an hwinfo report.
Created attachment 64952 [details] output of hwinfo
Could you add /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log as welll? Thanks.
Doh !! Just blew it away to try nld10b1. I'll get back to you with this later this afternoon, or earlier if NLD10 has the same problem.
Created attachment 65012 [details] xorg.conf this is taken from an install of nld10-b1 on the same machine, I'm assuming it's the same kernel etc. Let me know if this is not good enough.
Created attachment 65013 [details] Xorg.0.log as before, from nld10b1
Probably another radeon driver bug. :-(
Interestingly, I've been chatting with someone else in this office, and on his D600, he didn't have these problems. Maybe dell BIOS level related ? If you're interested, I can get the hwinfo etc from that machine.
Ok. I have a similar board for testing available (Radeon 9000), but this is a desktop machine. You could try to use the old radeon driver sax2 -r -m 0=radeonold Then we know, if it's a driver related problem.
Please try the "radeonold" driver for now.
Same problem using radeonold. Interestingly, if I plug a monitor into the laptop, and run sax2, (no options) the output appears on the montor. There are no settings in the bios to control the video output, but pressing the <fn><f8> key combo makes no difference.
Could you attach the logfile with the monitor plugged in? Thanks.
I think the monitor doesn't like 800x600, which is what is configured ATM. The panel is of size 1400x1050, can you change the configuration accordingly and try again?
I think what's happened is this. During the install, I just accepted the defaults. When it would't work, I fired up SAX2 from the command line to change the settings. While installing beta2, I changed the settings in yast, and it looks like it is now working. So,while I guess this is nolonger a blocker, (I've droped the priority accordingly) I still think it's a problem if the tool that configures the display, can't show any output on the display of a laptop. :-) Do you still want the output with the external monitor attached ? Do you want this closed, and a new usability bug opened ?
