Description Ricardo Rothfeld 2006-01-26 15:26:42 UTC
Slick, build 20051611. Kynaptic show that's installing packages but don't. Trying to find why we discover that the problem is related with the sources list. Synaptic acts in the same way. To install the packages that you need you must install SMART and SMART-GUI using apt. Smart can handle the sources list without any problem.

The openSUSE product in Bugzilla is only for problems with the openSUSE wiki or with Bugzilla itself. Please reassign to correct product/component.

Ricardo: Please be a little more verbosive about your problem:
What exactly are you trying to do and what output is shown? Add logfiles as available and describe how to reproduce the problem.

Well, after the install of Slick we tried to install more packages. The operation seems to be fine, Kynaptic found the packages and downloaded, but when we try to use any package that was installed by Kynaptic the system respond that the package don't exist. For example: Try to install OpenOffice, seems to work, but at the end you cannot use it. After this discovering we install smart using apt-get and everything works fine.
I'll try to attach some log files to give a better picture of the problem.

KDE maintainers: Please comment about this.

Some more info about this issue. Synaptic was installed using apt-get, works well and install all packages without problems using the same sources.list of Kynaptic.
Another thing is that SMART freeze and do not finalize if you try to install a lot of packages at the same time. Could this be a bug too? What do you think guys??
If positive, open a new bug report. Try to instal more than 15 packs on smart to reproduce the error.

Are we talking about an official SUSE package (no third-party package) here?
Comment 7 Ricardo Rothfeld 2006-02-02 16:05:37 UTC
Michael, I really don't know, but Kynaptic comes with my version of Slick(the last one) and exists on my Suse10 CD's.
I would like to help but I'm new on this thing of bugzillas, so, apologise my faults and help me to help you guys.
I'm a hard user of Suse since version 8.0, use for leisure and work.
The interesting part is that I was using Suse 10 and those little flaws doesn't happens. Everything start when I decided to use Slick.
Tnx for the comprehension.

I will close the bug now, please ask the slick maintainers about that problem.
I'm not sure what we can do here when it works with 10.0.

To be honest i don't know much about slick, if the package is different, compiled with other options or whatever. Maybe it will help to install the package from 10.0.

If you have more information about this bug from the slick maintainers, feel free add this to the bug.
Comment 9 Ricardo Rothfeld 2006-02-03 11:42:12 UTC
Thanks Martin, I'll let the guys on Slick to know about this possible bug.
In another partition I have Suse 10 running and if I find something I'll let you guys to know.
By the way, I offer my time to you to help in any issues that you need about Suse, I'm glad to help.
