After a fresh install of opensuse 10.1 b2, no external component to Linux is detected, I mean such as diffenrent partitions on hard disc, nor floppy disk nor USB stick. Kernel is: Linux linux 2.6.16-rc1-git3-4-default #1 Tue Jan 24 16:43:20 UTC 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Is it possible that the kernel has a bug?? Perhaps, something is wrong about the used drivers. lsmod shows: Module Size Used by vfat 11776 0 fat 47900 1 vfat nls_utf8 2048 1 speedstep_lib 4356 0 freq_table 4228 0 snd_page_alloc 9864 0 soundcore 9056 0 lp 11332 0 parport_pc 35940 1 parport 33736 2 lp,parport_pc edd 8516 0 xt_pkttype 1792 1 ipt_LOG 5888 7 xt_limit 2560 7 ip6t_REJECT 4864 3 xt_tcpudp 3072 3 ipt_REJECT 5120 3 xt_state 2048 12 iptable_mangle 2688 0 iptable_nat 7684 0 ip_nat 16172 1 iptable_nat ip6table_mangle 2304 0 ip_conntrack 48556 3 xt_state,iptable_nat,ip_nat nfnetlink 6168 2 ip_nat,ip_conntrack ip6table_filter 2688 1 ip6_tables 12616 2 ip6table_mangle,ip6table_filter af_packet 20616 0 iptable_filter 2944 1 ip_tables 11336 3 iptable_mangle,iptable_nat,iptable_filter x_tables 12164 10 xt_pkttype,ipt_LOG,xt_limit,ip6t_REJECT,xt_tcpudp,ipt_REJECT,xt_state,iptable_nat,ip6_tables,ip_tables joydev 9152 0 sg 32284 0 st 34972 0 sd_mod 16384 0 sr_mod 14884 0 scsi_mod 123816 4 sg,st,sd_mod,sr_mod ipv6 225632 13 ip6t_REJECT button 6928 0 battery 9860 0 ac 5124 0 subdomain 49176 0 sdmatch_pcre 13440 1 subdomain e1000 103224 0 eepro100 29072 0 e100 32900 0 mii 5120 2 eepro100,e100 ehci_hcd 28936 0 ohci_hcd 18564 0 loop 15240 0 hw_random 5656 0 generic 4356 0 [permanent] ide_cd 35872 1 cdrom 32800 2 sr_mod,ide_cd i2c_i801 8076 0 i2c_core 19840 1 i2c_i801 shpchp 39840 0 pci_hotplug 24704 1 shpchp intel_agp 20892 1 uhci_hcd 28688 0 agpgart 29656 1 intel_agp usbcore 113156 4 ehci_hcd,ohci_hcd,uhci_hcd dm_mod 53600 0 reiserfs 213376 1 fan 4740 0 thermal 13832 0 processor 23360 1 thermal piix 9476 0 [permanent] ide_disk 15232 3 ide_core 118032 4 generic,ide_cd,piix,ide_disk Thanks Al
A kernel problem, basesystem?
I found out that the cdrom is mounted, but if you try to open it on My Computer (Arbeitsplatz), the URL media:/hdc tries to open, but it fails. Opening the mountpoint in the filesystem (/media/{volname}) works perfectly. An lsusb doesn't show anythin connected to. If this is a kernel issue, how could I get a new kernel installed? Al
This is a known issue in Beta2, please read the "Most Annoying Bugs"
