just installing beta3,
selected KDE as my default desktop
added 'GNOME System' manually using the package manager screen out of the installation summary screen

... had to wait > 5 sec before the system reacted and resolved all the dependencies and I could proceed with the install

unexperienced users might fear that their system is broken if it takes that long to add a selection to the install

Gary, I assume this is pretty much fixed now.

Yes, afaik it is completely fixed. We have even removed our workarounds for this problem.
