Bugzilla – Bug 148187
Problems with Root in Logical Volume (LVM)
Last modified: 2006-03-13 12:44:57 UTC
I installed the Beta3 and choose to have the root partition in a Logical Volume. Everything went smoth until YaST2 tried the install Grub. The output was: grub>root(hd0,6) Filesystem type etx2, partition 0x83 grub-install --stage=/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/stage1 (hd0,6) /grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,6)/grub/menu.lst Error 15: file not found grub-install --stage=/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/stage1 (hd0) /grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,6)/grub/menu.lst I chose hda7 as "/boot" and /dev/system/linux1 in /dev/hda9 as "/" So Grub was not installed in hd0 and the boot partition was empty. I created a grub entry from another Linux intallation and booted into the 10.1 Beta3 system and created the YaST2 log files which I attached. After that I had problems with CD2 because the packages could not be read. I created it with delta ISO from Beta2 to Beta3. MD5sum was ok...

Encounter same problem here (X86_64 edition) both in SUSE 10.1 Beta 3 and Beta2 while installed system root partition in LVM. Failed to install both Grub and LILO /dev/hda2 ext3 /boot /dev/hda5 swap /dev/VolGroup/suse reiserfs /
I just tried that with beta5, works. So, can you please try again with a more recent beta?
If I have time I'll try it with a more recent beta but it can take a few days cause I'm in preparation for exams ;)
Side note: Beta 6 still has some problems with installation on LVM, fix will be in Beta7. So this bug might be fixed, but you'll see others.
I will close this bug now WORKSFOME, please reopen if you still encounter the problem.
