Bugzilla – Bug 148259
PVR-350 tv card non existent ins Suse 10.0
Last modified: 2006-05-29 15:42:24 UTC
When it comes to multimedia, Suse does a very poor job. PVR-350 card is detected but does not work. Modprobe for ivtv comes up with no firmware. Install the firmware with much pain, still will not load the firmware even though it is in the path specified by /sbin/udev.firmware.sh. This is with fresh updated install of Suse 10.0. Tried before for 3 weeks with later version of ivtv, still no success (that was before a fresh install). Followed many links in the internet, still no success. Suse downloads the binary driver for Nvidia cards, why no for the TV cards? I don't believe this was ever tested by Suse and from what I have read on the internet, none of the tv cards work "out of the box" with Suse. Art
There will be a script included in 10.1 to install the firmware. The card works for me with 10.0, maybe it depends on the firmware version (check the ivtv page, there is a list of firmwares). We are thinking about different ways to install it in the future. I will close the bug now, but but maintainer into cc:
I am now running SUSE 10.1 and have the ivtv packages installed, but neither is path to the firmware easy to locate (or documented at all?) but I am also unable to locate any script to install the firmware for me. I also have a PVR-350 tv card and, although the ivtv sees it I can't seem to find the right path for the firmware. /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware doesn't exist. I also tried /lib/firmware and even /lib/modules. Where does the firmware go?
there is a script included: /usr/share/doc/packages/ivtv/ivtvfwextract.pl, but you have to download the right firmware before. Please try it and if it will not work reopen the bug.
