Description Forgotten User A3RK95FV9B 2006-02-08 18:28:34 UTC
The resulting error message when having input the command 'hostid' is the following:
'Error while trying: gethostid'
This error message is output without any line feed (see following screen shot)!!

ibs@linux:~> hostid
Error while trying: gethostidibs@linux:~>

Setting the host identity with the help of the command 'hostid decimal_number' creates the relevant /etc/hostid file. Afterwards the command 'hostid' is returning the host identity just set without any error message.

This is a bug in hostid, not the kernel.
Comment 2 Hendrik Vogelsang 2006-02-09 10:28:02 UTC
this is purely cosmetical. ill wait if i get other things to do in util-linux and if yes it might get in. if not it will come after 10.1
