Description Mark Allyn 2006-02-13 16:18:46 UTC
Audio does not work with the RealTek ALC801 Audio Device while running the OpenSuse 10.1. Beta3 release.

Suggested fix is to use the latest drivers from www.alsa-project.org;
Current latest is 1.0.11rc3.
Comment 1 Michael Gross 2006-02-13 16:27:23 UTC
For SUSE Linux, please use Product SUSE Linux X.X, openSUSE is for the wiki at openSUSE only. Please attach `hwinfo --sound'. What did you do to configure your card, which driver was suggested (...), please be more verbose.

The audio device is a Realtek ALC861

Comment 5 Mark Allyn 2006-02-23 22:40:23 UTC
A patch for ALSA has been submitted to ALSA and will appear in
ALSA 1.0.11rc4.

I would like to suggest that OpenSuse consider downloading and
including ALSA 1.0.11rc4 or later when it becomes available. This
should solve this problem as well as the audio problem on the
Intel D945 Chipset based systems.

I am going to re-open this bug pending arrival of ALSA 1.0.11rc4
Comment 6 Mark Allyn 2006-02-23 22:44:23 UTC
I am not sure if this is the right move, but do I re-open this bug
pending arrival of ALSA 1.0.11rc4 from alsa-project.org (which is
supposed to have the patch required to fix this problem)?

If not, what state do I put this bug in if we are awaiting
something from an upstream source?
Comment 7 Michael Gross 2006-02-24 17:07:55 UTC
Let's ask Takashi.
Comment 8 Takashi Iwai 2006-02-24 17:24:14 UTC
SUSE 10.1 is (almost) identical with ALSA 1.0.11rc3 + latest CVS fixes.
Comment 9 Takashi Iwai 2006-02-24 17:36:03 UTC
To be more precise:

alsa-drivers = identical with the latest CVS
alsa-lib = a new simple_pcm API is missing, but others are same as CVS
alsa-utils = identical with latest CVS
alsa-tools = identical with latest CVS
  alsa-plugins = 1.0.10 + misc fixes
Comment 10 Takashi Iwai 2006-03-07 17:11:53 UTC
Anyway HD-audio bugs should be fixed, at least for ALC* codecs. Try beta6 or later.
