Bugzilla – Bug 153037
Zen-Updater replaces SuSEWatcher and other issues
Last modified: 2006-03-30 07:44:02 UTC
Ralf Flaxa asked for some pieces of information to get officially known The simplest way would be to add them into the release notes: - zen-upadter replaces SuSEWatcher applet for both KDE and GNOME - automatic update (yast2 online_update in cron) is replaced with 'rug' - and maybe also: new tool web-updater thanks
Karl, please add this.
there is already bug 147524 ; I'm going to enhance it as follows: <!-- bug 147524 and 153037 --> <sect3 id="rn101.update"> <title>Updating Software Packages Using Catalogs</title> <para> To apply security updates and install additional software packages, use the Web Updater from within the &yast; Control Center. An alternative for updating software is the ZENworks updater applet for KDE and GNOME which replaces the SUSEwatcher. The ZENworks updater helps monitor available patches.</para> <para>For automatic updating use <command>rug</command> which replaces the &yast; Online Update (YOU) in cron tables. </para> <para>For more information about these features, see the &suselinux; Start-Up Manual.</para> </sect3>

Rebecca said: this needs to be rewritten pretty extensively. the web updater is dead and YOU is back but isn't default... I propose: <para> To apply security updates and install additional software packages, use the Online Update from within the &yast; Control Center. An alternative for updating software is the ZENworks updater applet for KDE and GNOME, which replaces the SUSEwatcher. The ZENworks updater helps monitor available patches.</para> <para>For automatic update, use <command>rug</command> in cron tables. </para> <para>For more information about these features, see the &suselinux; Start-Up Manual.</para> </sect3>
Please mention ZENworks updater first and mark the "Online Update" as alternative.
