Bugzilla – Bug 154060
Xorg locks up after installation and on reboot with radeon driver
Last modified: 2006-02-28 09:53:40 UTC
At the end of the installation the screen is blank. System is still running but am unable to see anything on any tty. Same behavior on reboot - i can see the system booting then the screen blanks at runlevel 5. Running sax2 to setup the card manually (after chrooting from the rescue disk) results in the same bahavior. Attaching: hwinfo, Xorg.log, and sax log. This is only with the radeon driver - manually setting the driver to radeonold works normally.

--> http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs * X11 configuration during installation is totally broken in Beta5 due to a bug in package manager. Instead of the native X11 driver fbdev or even vesa driver will be configured. In order to create a valid X11 configuration stop xdm ("rcxdm stop") and use SaX2 for configuration ("sax2 -r"). ATI users should update the radeon driver first before executing SaX2. Otherwise the result will likely be a blank screen. Driver RPMs for i386/x86_64 are attached to Bug 153367 and are also on the ftp server in the fixed rpm directory. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 153367 ***
