Bugzilla – Bug 154550
PPC Boot Loader looking for HFS Boot Partition but can't find any existing HFS partition
Last modified: 2007-09-12 15:14:13 UTC
SLES10 PPC Beta 6 and all the previous betas (I understand Beta 6 isn't quite fully ready but I wanted to see if Beta 6 PPC will boot on my newest G5 Mac which it did. Beta 6 looks like the best beta so far that Gnome and KDE desktops actually run properly.) In all previous betas including Beta 6, during installation, Boot loader will always fail to install. The feedback I got were SLES10 PPC isn't officially supported on the G5 Mac. But when I used Yast, System, Boot Loader configuration, it showed something interesting that suggested SLES10 PPC boot loader is designed to run on a PPC Mac: In the Boot Loader Settings screen, go to Boot Loader Installation tab. It showed: Type Boot Loader PPC Boot Loader Location HFS Boot Partition - no valid boot partition HFS exists only on Mac. So, if SLES10 PPC doesn't support PPC Mac, then why does the Boot Loader showing it's looking HFS partition? Anyway, I tried creating using Partitioner a HFS partition, but Boot Loader still couldn't see it. I also tried putting in a second SATA hard drive that was installed with Mac OS X.4 which has HFS partition, but Boot Loader still can't see it. What I think is if Boot Loader was designed to run on PPC Mac HFS partition, but the code is broken in SLES10. I don't know if SLES9 PPC Boot Loader works on the PPC Mac. Never installed it.
Olaf, can you help out here?
SLES10 and SuLi 10.x has the same code base (Code10). but this is a SuLi bug. The main problem seems to be that partitioning on Macs does not work as we would like it to do ... will see what I can do after 10.1. ...
