Description Forgotten User 55iwwMllzz 2006-03-11 12:45:14 UTC
It is very common nowadays that network interface cards don't have Wake-on-LAN enabled by default (even when it is enabled on the BIOS). Usually the user needs to explicitly enable WOL using ethtool.

A useful enhancement to YaST's Network Card module would be allowing the user to set Wake-on-LAN options. This could be located in Advanced -> Hardware Details. YaST would first make sure the NIC's kernel module supported setting WOL, and then provide the user with the same set of options ethtool does:
       p Wake on phy activity
       u Wake on unicast messages
       m Wake on multicast messages
       b Wake on broadcast messages
       a Wake on ARP
       g Wake on MagicPacket(tm)
       s Enable SecureOn(tm) password for MagicPacket(tm)
       d Disable (wake on nothing)

If YaST determines the kernel module does not allow setting WOL, it would grey out the options list and print a message like «The driver or the card do not support setting Wake-on-LAN».

Since 10.1 is feature freezed, couldn't this bug be moved to 10.2 ?
Comment 2 Forgotten User 55iwwMllzz 2006-04-02 18:36:34 UTC
Sorry for the mistake: "feature frozen".
Comment 3 Forgotten User 55iwwMllzz 2006-05-04 23:31:35 UTC
Hope you consider adding this small enhancement in 10.2. SuSE would be the first distro to have this.

Reassigning to the new maintainer of yast2-network.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
