Description Forgotten User mbQyAD5r4K 2006-03-11 12:48:58 UTC
To fix annoying BIOS issues on my system I need to write some values to MSR registers on every bootup. Otherwise it runs toooo ssllloooowwww. Unfortunately msr.ko is missing from the install kernel on CD1. Is there a chance to provide it in future betas/RCs? It's just a small bit, I'm sure it'll fit on the CD just fine ;-)

Hi Michal!

msr.ko should be there. Are you sure it isn't just the device
nodes that don't get created?

Hi Olaf!

msr.ko is included in kernel.rpm, that's right, but isn't present in the installation ramdisk after booting up from CD1. At least "modprobe msr" didn't work and I'm pretty sure I tried to find it in /lib/modules to no avail.

The package installation alone without configured msr takes more than 2 hours so I just wanted to speed it up yet during install.

I see.

Adjusting component to Install and reassigning.

Let's ask Hannes for a comment here.
Comment 5 Hannes Reinecke 2006-03-22 07:27:25 UTC
Again, installation system. Nothing to do with me.

mkinitrd only evaluates the modules from /etc/sysconfig/kernel:INITRD_MODULES.
It does _not_ write anything into it.
Comment 6 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-03-22 11:02:03 UTC
ok with me
Comment 7 Forgotten User mbQyAD5r4K 2006-03-22 22:25:21 UTC
What do you mean with "ok with me" - was the module added into install image? Thx
Comment 8 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-03-23 10:04:55 UTC
that's why I set the bug to 'fixed'
