Description Sultanbek Tezadov 2006-03-13 08:25:30 UTC
Using Yast software manager is somewhat not excellent due to usability issues.
1. The whole list of all available packages (from all installation sources) should be visible by default.
2. It should be possible to narrow down the list by applying various filters.
3. Filters should include:
---- category (Base, Multimedia, Games, Development, etc.)
---- status (installed, not installed)
---- action requested (marked to be installed, marked to be updated, marked to be uninstalled)
---- dependencies (all packages the selected one depends on)
---- package name (each application is identified by some short name, for ex. mc, wine, k3b, etc.)
---- keyword (search the given string in the package descriptions)
---- provided files (ability to find the package the given file belongs to)
4. More detailed package information should be available, for ex. the full list of all files the package provides.
5. Remove the annoying "Install more software?" modal dialog. It requires extra click with no value in turn.

6. Make all retrieval/installation happen in the background without blocking the UI for the user.
Comment 2 Michael Gross 2006-03-13 10:10:01 UTC
Please notice that there is a new packager backend since Beta4, so the packager is actually a work in progress. At first, only vital functions will get implemented, but most of your issues obove should be working with the final release of 10.1. Please wait until then before asking for enhancements again.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
