Bugzilla – Bug 158591
some icons in Gnome menu are hard to identify
Last modified: 2006-10-12 14:09:46 UTC
The quality of icons in Gnome menu varies significantly. Some icons are very clear, but some are blurry or too dark, and hard to distinguish. I believe the original images were all equally good, but when rescaled to the small size, some of them became almost unrecognizable (especially those with small contrast and similar colors) while some went just fine. Examples of icons that are fine: Board Games, Card Games, Epiphany... Blurry icons: Action Games, CD/DVD Tools, Banshee Icons with insufficient contrast/unclear shapes: File Manager, Home Folder, Nautilus
This is presumably the old style menu Jakub.
From the listed items, the following have all 16x16, 22x22 and a scalable version: - File Manager - Home Folder - Nautilus - Epiphany (generic web-browser) - Banshee I just added the old menu applet and apart from a lot of crystal icons showing, the icons look appropriate. Can you attach a screenshot exposing the problem?
Shall we close this, or is there progress expected? Seems to be dead to me...
I have just installed RC2, and the icons are much better, excellent work! Only two or so icons are remaining, I will provide screenshots.

Created attachment 81011 [details] Action Games (scalable) Not exactly sure where to put these if at all (I don't consider multi-level menu as very usable), but attaching the artwork anyway.

I think the new icons are nice :)
We are considering adding 32x32 as an optional size to the tango styleguides. As a result of this, expect more app icons to come up sharper in the start menu in the not so distant future.
As I no more notice any unclear icons, and the icons are generally more cheerful now, I think we can close this bug as fixed. :-)
