Description Neil Brown 2006-03-18 08:35:09 UTC
I just installed SL10.1-beta8 which all went quite smoothly. I choose the KDE option.

I then ran YaST2 and selected Software Management, and selected some extra
packages that I wanted - gcc, KDE games, ethereal, tcpdump.

The first time I was asked for a new CD (2 I think), I could click the 'Eject'
button OK, take the CD out, and put the new one in.

Every time after that, the Eject button (in the dialog box) simply didn't work (the dialog box disappeared and came back with no apparent effect) and the eject button on the CD drive caused a pop-up saying something like "Error: kio_media ..." "Permissions Denied" (which should really be "Permission Denied", so 's', but that isn't a big deal).

The eject the CD switched to a text console, logged in as root, and typed 'eject'.

Then when I put the new CD in and let YaST continue on it's way, another Dialog box would pop up from "KDE Daemon" telling me that a new medium has been detected, and what did I want to do with it.

This isn't a major problem, but it was jolly annoying. I didn't want to say "Always do nothing" because normally I would want it to open the new media in a window, but in this case, when YaST should be in control, I want it to do nothing. So I just pressed Cancel each time.

Also, the counts of the number of packages still to go were often inconsistent with the total. It was very weird...

So: three problems:
1- eject doesn't work - this is fairly serious I think.
2- KDE Daemon should be told to leave the CD alone. This is just annoying.
3- summary information is inconsistent. This is just a bad image.

Thanks.

then do so: set the volume.ignore HAL property on the volume.
