Description Forgotten User xs3PtXj4XH 2006-03-23 13:22:58 UTC
The hardware running on this machine is as follows:

AthlonX2 3800+, MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Motherboard (nForce4 Ultra chipset), WD2500KS Hard Drive, MSI Geforce 6600GT PCI-Express Video Card.

Component "suseplugger" fails to notify the user that new hardware has been detected on this machine. For example, plugging in a flash-drive yields no response, as does inserting a cd or dvd. The cd-rom (for example) however has been correctly mounted and detected and can be accessed as normal from "My Computer". However, for pluggable devices this obviously represents a problem.

Mention should be made that manually killing and then restarting the process from console brings propper functionality back to the system. Interestingly, the FIRST session after installation also functions correctly but from then on fails.

it works fine on my 10.0, but that's of less interest: it works in 10.1 and it works different there

Just tested: Also present in x86_64 architecture on same machine as specified above.

Confirmed as present in SuSE 10.1 RC2. Suspect it to be caused by the failed activation of Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet adapters on systems that use them on the motherboard (which do not function correctly in other distributions either).

Comment 10 Ihno Krumreich 2006-06-02 17:24:10 UTC
Does it still fail with the Goldmaster?
Comment 11 Forgotten User xs3PtXj4XH 2006-07-28 16:54:08 UTC
Appears to continue to fail under Gold Master of SuSE 10.1
Comment 12 Forgotten User xs3PtXj4XH 2009-09-27 13:46:32 UTC
I assume we can close this now? It's over 3 years old, and 10.1 is no longer supported.
Comment 13 Forgotten User xs3PtXj4XH 2009-09-29 17:05:30 UTC
Bug closed with WONTFIX as SuSE 10.1 is no longer supported.
