Bugzilla – Bug 162063
YAST2 cannot create installation source on local directory
Last modified: 2006-04-26 08:28:20 UTC
When trying to add an installation source from a local dir in YAST2 system reports: Unable to create installation source from URL /xxx Also in Konqueror if I try to click the button" Use Directory as Source with Yast" the system prompts for root passwd and then reports "directory added" but the catalogue still does not display the dir as source.
Bottom line there is no way to add a source or install a package under GUI (KDE). Install package with Yast does not work either in Konqueror.
Please attach /var/log/YaST2 as tarball here.

Just to clarify my previous comment. Installing a package from Konqueror (click on the rpm and then click on "Install package with YAST") does not work since 10.1 b3. The way I was going around this issue was to save the rpm locally and then to add that directory as YAST source. Now, in b8 I see that this method does not work either. Hence there is no way to install an RPM with GUI.
The first issue is known and should soon be fixed. Reassigning.
Fixed after Beta9
Reopening bug. Actually it may be two different (related?) bugs. Not sure. On rc2 I cannot add "Local Directory" to YaST installation source-module. I get the error "Unable to add URL, try again?". If I right click on folder > actions > "add directory as a source to yast", it says "Source added" - but no source is added to the installation source-module. Also I cannot install an rpm. Neither by clicking on it in konqueror > install package with yast nor by right-clicking > actions > install with yast. I get the error message "another process is accessing the package database. Package management will not work!".

Ad installing the database - there is another process accessing the package management -> correct behavior. Please, attach the file list of the source directory you want to add (e.g. output of 'find <dir>' )
Created attachment 80134 [details] find <dir> output as requested This is the same folder as the original one - but on a different location - as I had moved it in the meantime. Before getting the find-output I tested again and the folder can still not be added as a local directory-yast source.
OK, plain dir source. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 168358 ***
