This sounds like a very good idea ;-)

Recommended text:

SUSE Linux 10.1 now uses syslog-ng by default because it allows better filtering of log messages.

If you do an upgrade and still use syslogd, we will not change your settings. However, we recommend to switch to syslog-ng by setting
    SYSLOG_DAEMON="syslog-ng"
in /etc/sysconfig/syslog.

we use syslog-ng as default since 9.3 guys...

comment #2 makes me believe that we do not add it to the RNs.  The manual resp. the SDB should be adjusted instead if not already done.
