Description Stephan Schwarz 2006-04-27 09:26:54 UTC
The Controller Promise SATA 300-TX2 plus does not see any SATA disk.
Comment 1 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2006-04-29 01:27:03 UTC
Do you have any kernel log files you can attach to show us what the controller
is trying to do?

Is this on the install, or after you boot normally after install has finished?
Comment 2 Stephan Schwarz 2006-05-09 07:40:46 UTC
Wenn I try whith other distribution like ubuntu or knoppix,
the controller works fine.
SUSE does not see the SATA Disk on install and after I boot normally.
Comment 3 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2006-05-11 04:55:55 UTC
Any kernel log or installer logs you can provide us? Without that,
it's going to be very hard to work on this.
Comment 4 Lars Marowsky-Bree 2006-05-23 09:02:56 UTC
No logs for two weeks, alas, I'll have to close this bugzilla. Please re-open if the problem persists with the latest version and attach the requested logfiles.
Comment 5 Stephan Schwarz 2006-07-07 12:05:20 UTC
In the new Version OpenSuse 10.2 the Bug is still there.
Can you help me, where can I find the requestet log?

Comment 8 Stephan Schwarz 2006-10-09 19:34:10 UTC
The Promise SATA 300-TX2 plus does
still not work together with openSUSE 10.2 Alpha5.
(But nobody cares about this.)

If I can help, tell me please.
Comment 9 Lars Marowsky-Bree 2006-10-10 09:04:02 UTC
Stephan, does booting with acpi=off help? Sometimes it does.
Comment 10 Stephan Schwarz 2006-10-10 18:29:52 UTC
Hi Lars, acpi=off does regrettably not help.
Why does knoppix an ubuntu work without any problem?
Comment 11 Marcel Hilzinger 2006-10-11 10:02:44 UTC
Hi Stephan,
I have the same card (at least same controller) and it works fine under SL 10.1 and openSUSE alpha4. I'm quite sure, that this bug muste be related to your hardware. Maybe you have a problem with other devices. Try to unmount as many PCI-devices as possible, remove them from your computer, then reboot.
Comment 12 Stephan Schwarz 2006-10-11 20:04:59 UTC
Why does knoppix an ubuntu work without any problem?
Comment 13 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2006-10-11 21:22:04 UTC
I don't know, what kernel version are they based off of? And do they provide any kernel patches for your hardware in the kernel?
Comment 14 Stephan Schwarz 2006-10-12 06:23:22 UTC
Kubuntu kernel 2.6.15-20
Knoppix kernel 2.6.17

How can I test for You, if they provide any kernel patches?
Comment 15 Marcel Hilzinger 2006-10-12 09:25:15 UTC
Stephan: please do the following:
attach a disk to the card, switch the disk on ;-)

open a console with

tail -f /var/log/messages

open a second console and unload the sata_promise module:

rmmod sata_promise

then reload the module:

modprobe sata_promise

Post all messages here, which appear meanwhile in the first console.
Comment 16 Stephan Schwarz 2006-10-16 08:17:48 UTC
You mean with openSUSE 10.2 Alpha5 :

I hope this helps

Hello, Stephan Schwarz. Can you please post dmesg of a successful boot from ubuntu or knoppix? Sorry about all the trouble. :-)

Yes, I can.
How do I have to do this?
Now I have openSUSE 10.2 BETA2.

I get the following message:
rpm -ihv kernel-default-2.6.18.2-33tj.i586.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        perl-Bootloader >= 0.4.1 is needed by kernel-default-2.6.18.2-33tj.i586

The kernel is from 10.2rc1. That dependency shouldn't matter too much. Just do 'rpm --ivh --nodeps kernel-default-2.6.18.2-33tj.i586.rpm'.

I'm sorry but I'm really out of clue at this point. I've been trying to find a sata300 tx2 plus card for some time now but there doesn't seem to be any shop carrying it here. Only sata150's which work fine. I'll look again. Please be patient. Thanks.

I bought sata300 tx2 plus (105a:3d73) and openSUSE 10.2 works fine with the controller. I've tested it with various samsung, maxtor, seagate and wd hdds and also with two SATAPI ODDs (LG and plextor). Then, I downloaded knoppix 5.0.1 and diffed the kernel (it's mostly stock 2.6.17). There is no relevant change.

I really wanna fix this but am stuck hard here. Where are you? Can you ship your controller and the problematic harddisk to me? I can pay you.

No response in ~20 days, and I can't reproduce the problem. Closing. Please reopen when further actions can be taken.
