Bugzilla – Bug 171078
returning from SUSPEND displays contents of screen before authentication
Last modified: 2006-04-30 03:34:36 UTC
This is a potential minor security issue, if others are seeing what I am seeing. I have SuSe 10.0 on a DELL Inspiron 8500 laptop, stock everything, no customization to packages or kernel, all updates applied, and this issue appears each time that the machine's power button is pressed in order to power up after having been suspended. Where it was first noticed was a user had an intranet page open in FireFox 1.5.0.2, which was on the top, in focus, during a session, then hit ctrl+alt+del and chose suspend, let it very nicely suspend the session and power down. Then come back to the laptop later, but this time with some other people around, hit the power button, the machine powered up, the OS restored the suspended session very nicely, and then the FireFox window was shown, then the screen saver locked the screen, and asked for authentication to unlock the screen, to resume work. This was minorly embarassing & minorly important in this specific situation where this was discovered, but I can imagine it being worse for others in other situations. We are now closing proprietary windows before suspending, but, nonetheless, I think it might be worth noting that the resume from suspend ought to keep the screen entirely black the entire time, until sucessfully authenticated, and then display the user's desktop. Peace. Love. Linux. Thanks for the excellent work. Jason Sjobeck sjobeck.com
Hmm, what product do you really use? You have set Product "SUSE Linux 10.0", unspecified version - but you have also set Operating system "SUSE Linux 10.1". That's confusing :-/ - in case you use 10.0, close this bug as duplicate of bug 115123 - I don't think this will be backported to 10.0 (but you might want to use the KDE packages from supplementary, maybe it's fixed there) - in case you use 10.1 RCx, you should reopen bug 115123 ;-) (and close this one as duplicate also)
