Description Matt Wilby 2006-05-20 07:22:07 UTC
Updated to dhcdbd 1.12-14.2 & dhcp 3.0.3-21.1 via software updater (was dhcdbd 1.12-14 & dhcp 3.0.3-21 from the install CD).

Interface eth1 (ipw3945 wireless) no longer picks up DHCP address.

/var/log/messages:

May 20 07:57:28 nbk1 dhclient: exiting.
May 20 07:57:28 nbk1 dhcdbd: Unrequested down ?:3

Gnome Network manager appears to connect but then fails to optain IP, and prompts again for the WPA passphrase.

DHCP worked fine on the interface before the update. If I configure the interface to use a static address again it works fine.

Wireless device is Intel ipw3945 a/b/g.

Thanks.

This is not limited to my wireless card either, any interface fails to pickup an IP address. For example my laptop also has this ethernet adapter:

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)

Which fails with the same entry in /var/log/messages:

Not very good.

perhaps robert has an idea.
Comment 6 Robert Love 2006-05-20 13:47:46 UTC
Hrm, it looks like the YOU update for dhcp is busted ...

There wasn't a dhcp-client upgrade, too? We needed to roll out dhcp-client from that updated dhcp source package, not just dhcp.

Matt: If there is a dhcp-client upgrade available, please install it. This should remedy the problem.

Otherwise, in the meantime, set DHCLIENT_HOSTNAME_OPTION in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp to "" (e.g., empty string).

Does this fix the problem?
Comment 7 Marcus Meissner 2006-05-20 13:51:49 UTC
the dhcp-client subpackage was missing.

We need to push out an update to 1f629c038766cae9904eb7722a03aa3d
with both dhcp and dhcp-client.

I have submitted a new patchinfo with dhcp,dhcp-client packages
inside already, so nothing more to do.
Comment 8 Robert Love 2006-05-20 14:10:00 UTC
Thank you, Marcus.
Comment 9 Matt Wilby 2006-05-20 14:52:40 UTC
Robert,

Yes changing DHCLIENT_HOSTNAME_OPTION to open string has reolsved the issue.

No update showing up as yet.

Thanks for the help.

Matt
Comment 10 Robert Love 2006-05-20 19:30:00 UTC
Alright, thanks Matt.

The bug is the missing dhcp-client package. Marcus took care to submit the update, so it should show up soon. It might take a bit, but it will be there. In the meantime, the changes to DHCLIENT_HOSTNAME_OPTINO will rectify the problem.

As there is nothing left to do, marking the bug as FIXED.
