Description Victor Billings 2006-06-23 17:32:37 UTC
SLED build : 1360

Detail : There appears to be no way in the UI to clear the recent documents list. This can decrease the whole point of the menu since if the list is highly populated, then its relevance rapidly decreases.

Steps:
1. Through the UI, attempt to clear the Recent Documents history.

Expected : It is generally excepted that apps that have a memory of past operations should have a way to forget that information to preserve possible privacy concerns. In order to have a friendly desktop, this method should be exposed within the UI of the application.

I'm pretty sure that this is an enhancement request as this kind of recent file management is not mentioned in the spec. Reassigning to Anna.

remove recent item or all the items in popup menu

When we right click on the recent document item, the popup menu will be filled with two more menu items:
  Remove this document from recent document area;
Purge all the recent infos from recent area.

Comment 13 Federico Mena Quintero 2009-07-23 17:49:43 UTC
Moving this to openSUSE 11.1 to make it public.
Comment 14 Atri Bhattacharya 2009-07-25 06:06:57 UTC
It will be really great if this patch is included in openSUSE 11.2. There are a couple of feature requests for this for 11.2 already.

Much obliged that someone looked into this issue and resolved it. Although it took more than 3 years. Privacy features are not enhancements, they are necessities.

11.2 Milestone5 and still waiting.
Comment 19 Federico Mena Quintero 2009-08-28 00:03:29 UTC
I just submitted this for GNOME:Factory. Lovely patch; thanks, David!

I'll push it upstream to the appropriate parts of libslab and gnome-main-menu.
Comment 20 Federico Mena Quintero 2009-08-28 00:11:15 UTC
The patch is pushed upstream now for both libslab and gnome-main-menu.

Libslab's changed document_tile_new() will go into 2.29.0 (we are string-frozen upstream, so this has to wait until that release).

Gnome-main-menu's corresponding patch will appear in 0.9.14, but that will depend on libslab 2.29.0.

fix a bug with the last patch

I test gnome-main-menu 0.9.13 with my previous patch.
A bug is,
In the recently used document session, 'add to favoriate' crash main-menu.
This patch fix it.

David,

will this patch be commited upstream? I can already take it into the openSUSE Package, but we should not forget to push it.
Comment 24 Dominique Leuenberger 2009-10-07 14:45:08 UTC
(tested the patch.. does no longer crash indeed).
Comment 25 Dominique Leuenberger 2009-10-09 22:25:50 UTC
Forwarded the patch to openSUSE Factory.

Patch should still be applied upstream git before closing here.
Comment 26 Vincent Untz 2010-03-30 00:26:34 UTC
Patch committed upstream.
