Description Dieter Probst 2006-09-24 17:59:35 UTC
I am running 10.1 in parallel with an Suse 9.3 Installation. With Suse 9.3 sound works fine. With Suse 10.1 I was not able to get any sound out of my speakers.
The error looks similar to bug 127738 (Suse 10.0) however none of the described work arounds made any difference.
Installation with yast does not show any error message however the test button does not deliver any sound. I tried alsaconf and alsamixer as well. Messages show succesful restart of the sound driver but there wasn`t any success either.

this is actually, a duplicated of that bug.

however..did you tried comment #8 of this report, that should work..
why ? because that "cheap" cards are really really common, and drivers are available, vendor is linux friendly. and are even listed in the vendor's page.,

Comment 2 Dieter Probst 2006-10-03 14:48:59 UTC
I did try comment #8 but nothing happened. I deleted /etc/modprobe.d/sound and rebooted. The card is still shown on yast but needs to be configured. Configuration seems to be successful but the test button does not deliver any sound. Is there any dependancy with KDE Sound system? KDE settings show: Sound system deactivated.
My system has an additional on board sound system (AC97) but due to bad experiences in the past I disabled it in BIOS leaving only the PCI-Card active.

I would still be pleased to get help ...

Does this bug appear on 10.2 (or better 10.3-alpha) ?
Comment 8 Andreas Jaeger 2007-08-11 16:40:17 UTC
No reaction since more than 2 months, therefore closing as CANTFIX (aka WONTFIX).

If you can provide the needed information, feel free to reopen the bug.
