Installing NetworkManager-vpnc installs the whole gnome desktop...
Last modified: 2006-10-16 08:43:18 UTC
I want to use vpnc with NM but why does that need so many gnome packages? Installing packages (31): NetworkManager-gnome-0.6.4-12@i586 NetworkManager-vpnc-0.5.0cvs20060202-31@i586 control-center2-2.16.1-2@i586 eel-2.16.0-5@i586 evolution-data-server-1.8.1-2@i586 gail-1.9.3-2@i586 gnome-audio-2.0.0-140@noarch gnome-desktop-2.16.1-2@i586 gnome-main-menu-0.6.2-8@i586 gnome-menus-2.16.1-2@i586 gnome-panel-2.16.1-2@i586 gnome-system-monitor-2.16.1-2@i586 gnome-terminal-2.16.1-2@i586 gnome-themes-2.16.1-2@noarch gnome2-user-docs-2.16.1-2@noarch gnutls-1.4.4-4@i586 gtk2-engines-2.8.1-2@i586 libcroco-0.6.1-3@i586 libgnomeprintui-2.12.1-26@i586 libgnomesu-1.0.0-46@i586 libgtop-2.14.4-2@i586 libopencdk-0.5.9-6@i586 librsvg-2.16.0-6@i586 libsoup-2.2.96-8@i586 libwnck-2.16.1-2@i586 libxklavier-3.0-7@i586 lzo-2.02-19@i586 metacity-2.16.3-2@i586 nautilus-2.16.1-2@i586 tango-icon-theme-0.7.2-15@noarch vte-0.14.1-2@i586
(In reply to comment #0) > I want to use vpnc with NM but why does that need so many gnome packages? Because of bug 158326 and bug 198529.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=158691 is about the same too. "And in this case, yes, GNOME will be pulled. That's fine, as I am using the GNOME NM VPN infrastructure (g-k-d and VPN the configuration dialog) for KNetworkManager at the moment. Not a long term solution, but as KNM can not guess the VPN properties of a unknown VPN plugin the only solution for now." So is there any long term solution in sight?
