Description Anna Maresova 2006-11-15 12:50:56 UTC
I installed beta1 on my Apple laptop which has an ethernet adapter and a wireless card with Broadcom chipset.

During installation YaST2 tried to set up a Broadcom card - it loaded modules correctly but failed because we are not shipping firmware for this card. Then YaST gave up - the only way to continue downloading updates during installation was to set up an ethernet adapter manualy from console.

Apparently we should not try to set up a card we do not support. It is also quite strange to set up a wireless card as eth0 and an ethernet adapter as eth1.

YaST2 logs are attached.

Duplicate, recently fixed IIRC.

BTW I am no longer the maintainer of yast2-network. mzugec and kmachalkova have it now.

Comment 3 Katarina Machalkova 2006-11-15 16:01:31 UTC
Well, but the fix covers only the cases where we ship the firmware (on Add-On CD or elsewhere, that's the case for Intel|Atmel|Qlogic cards afaik) - it tells user to add appropriate installation source.

For the cases we do not ship the firmware, we need a better fix. But I'm afraid that it's not easily doable now, because of the text freeze (a new pop-up text is needed)
Comment 4 Katarina Machalkova 2006-11-15 16:10:57 UTC
But untranslated popup text might be better than no text at all ;-)

Fixed in yast2-network 2.14.11 (2.13.80 for SLE10)
Comment 7 Katarina Machalkova 2006-11-29 09:46:38 UTC
Eh .. I mean 2.14.12
Comment 8 Forgotten User ZhJd0F0L3x 2006-11-29 17:22:21 UTC
not fixed in 10.2RC3: i still get no popup for my broadcom card that the firmware is needed.

.
Comment 10 Katarina Machalkova 2006-11-29 19:43:10 UTC
If there is yast2-network 2.14.11 in RC3 - no wonder, the fix is in 2.14.12 version
If there is yast2-network 2.14.12 package - you have to delete configuration of the card first and then try to configure it again. It won't work with already 'configured' card.

Before GM is released, I can give you a fixed package you can test.

Seife, does this testcase still fail for you ?
Comment 13 Katarina Machalkova 2007-01-15 10:01:53 UTC
This is (must be :-) ) fixed in 10.2 Goldmater
