Description Andreas Hanke 2006-12-05 05:41:03 UTC
totem doesn't want to play Audio CDs. Strictly speaking, it's a video player and not an audio player, but I *think* this worked in the past.

It has a menu entry labeled "Movie -> Play Disc 'CD-RW/DVD±RW Drive'", which is selectable, but useless as long as the drive is empty.

As soon as an Audio CD is inserted into the drive, the menu entry turns into "Play Disc 'Audio Disc'", but becomes greyed out. So the Audio CD cannot be played.

totem when the Audio CD is inserted

The CD is recognized, but cannot be played because the menu entry is disabled

Turns out that Audio CDs are disabled upstream on purpose:

/* Add devices with blank CDs and audio CDs in them, but disable them */

IMHO not a very friendly user interface design (there is no indication why Audio CDs don't work, so the user might think it's just broken), but since it's the intended behaviour, closing it would be fine for me.

The rhythmbox problem (bug 226065) remains.

The software works as designed, but it took me quite a while to figure out that not playing CDDA is OK and that there is nothing wrong.

There is some room for improvement (UI-wise) in this area.

Did this get fixed when we updated Totem to the latest version? (I don't have any music cd's so can't test)
