Description Mike Fabian 2007-01-08 11:43:00 UTC
Start Firefox, gedit, and "gnome-font-properties".

Changing the font size of the "Application font" has an immediate
effect on both Firefox and gedit (although Firefox did sometimes
crash on my system, see bug #232209).

But changing the "Font Rendering" settings

    [ ] Monochrome [ ] Best shapes
[ ] Best contrast [*] Subpixel smoothing (LCDs)

has an effect only on gedit but not on Firefox.

Why?

Firefox is a GTK2 application, therefore I guess this is a bug in
Firefox, isnt' it?

The same problem exists for Thunderbird, see bug #232466 comment #14.
Comment 2 Mike Fabian 2007-01-08 17:30:07 UTC
gimp, like gedit, is affected by the "Font Rendering" settings in
gnome-font-properties.

Does it apply when Firefox is restarted?
Comment 4 Mike Fabian 2007-01-09 09:24:52 UTC
No.

Apparently the only way to the the hint settings apply to Firefox
is to edit the config files, i.e. ~/.fonts.conf.
