Description Rainer Klier 2007-02-23 13:02:57 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a copy of Bug #132535 +++

when creating appointments on a calendar on an exchange server, then alarm-popups doesn't show up.
when creating a appointment on the local calendar, or changing the appointment from calendar on an exchange server to local calendar it works.

UPDATE:

i am now on opensuse10.2 with evolution 2.8.2 and it happens again.
but this time i know a workaround:
you have to kill and restart at least the evolution-alarm-notify program/daemon.

but i found out, that evolution works best, if you kill EVERY program which belongs to evolution EVERY time you start evolution.

i made a script, which kills everything, and then starts evolution.
and when i want to use evolution, i start this script, not evolution directly.

Akhil, can you test this in 10.3?
Comment 2 Stephan Kulow 2007-10-04 12:54:38 UTC
Reassign to get some attention
Comment 3 Rainer Klier 2007-10-04 19:31:48 UTC
hi,
thanks Stephan for the Reassign.
i am also on opensuse10.3 since today :-)

so i will able to check this myself.
but first i have to solve/fix/workaround bug #304802
because this is hitting me hard!

coz today i lost my exchange-account after upgrading to 10.3, which has this awful bug!

since the days of suse10.1 i always compiled evolution for myself, coz every version, which came out with the latest suse/opensuse had its severe bugs, which prevented me from using the provided version:
10.1: exchange (calender, appointments,...) didn't work at all
10.2: evolution asked for password EVERY time, it was started, when run in KDE.
10.3: evolution doesn't accept exchange password (NTLM broken)

i could write a list of tricks and workarounds which are necessary to run evolution in daily work.
maybe i should do this in opensuse wiki.....

and i could open at least 3 new bug-reports.
maybe i should do this after i have my exchange-account back working in evolution....

Rainer, Bug 304802 has been fixed long back. Have you got time to check alarms ?
OpenSUSE 11.0 Alpha2 is also available which has Evolution 2.21.90. Alarm pop ups are working fine for me. Can you please check and update the bug. TIA
Comment 5 Rainer Klier 2008-03-07 08:00:08 UTC
all i can say is this:

right now i am using latest evolution 2.21.92 on opensuse10.3.
i have (like always in the past few years) made this version by myself from the sources.

and this version works regarding appointments when i restart EVERY evolution-process when starting evolution (like i said in my first post)

i can't say if the Evolution 2.21.90 coming with opensuse11 would work.

and if i start my self-made evolution WITHOUT killing all running background-processes before (evolution-data-server-2.22 and evolution-alarm-notify) then alarm-popup doesn't appear.

the alarm-daemon needs you to remember the password. Could you please verify with that?
[When Evolution pops-up a password dialog for the Exchange account, check 'Remember this password', then restart all the evolution processes.]

yes, i always have this checkbox checked.
on every dialog evolution pops up about 'Remember this password' i always click on this checkbox.

Rainer, this works for me with the latest stable Evolution 2.22.3.1. Can you please test this again with the latest version and let us know if it works for you too, so that we can close this bug?

today i am using evolution 2.23.4 on opensuse11.
and it is like i wrote in comment #6 (#c6).

it ist working as long as i am restarting all the evolution-background-processes (/usr/local/libexec/evolution-data-server-2.24, /usr/local/libexec/evolution/2.24/evolution-exchange-storage and /usr/local/libexec/evolution/2.24/evolution-alarm-notify) whenever i restart evolution.

to stop these evolution-background-processes i use the supplied /usr/local/libexec/evolution/2.24/killev.

with this workaround it is working.
but not without it.
but i can live with that.

so you can count this as "works for me".
and for me, this bug can be closed.

Rainer, this is a little bit confusing, Prasad could not reproduce it with his version, so maybe something else is broken. Could you state for lifting the confusion a little bit again (sorry) the OS and the Evolution version?
Thanks.
Comment 13 Akhil Laddha 2009-08-06 06:02:03 UTC
Could you please confirm if the problem still occurs in OpenSUSE factory / OpenSUSE 11.2.

Again thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed
for the version you originally used here.

You are most welcome to use daily snapshot version if you are on OpenSUSE 11.1
( NOTE : It's an unstable version ).
