Bugzilla – Bug 308956
KDE Failing to Launch
Last modified: 2007-09-08 21:47:48 UTC
When booting Opensuse 10.3 Beta 3 it starts up fine. But it does not launch any graphical interface. I tried getting into the shell and typing "KDE" and it says KDE Failed to launch. My graphics card is a Intel 82815 and I'm using a 2000 Gateway.
Provide full logs
That sounds like not even X.org (with the graphical login manager) starts, correct?
I Posted the Log Below. The X-Server Fails to Load for some reason in KDE. I will try GNOME Later and let you know if it has the same problem. that's not a log file. Is kdm even installed? Does it start? Does X start?
> >kde That is not supposed to start an X server. > Beginning of Log: And that's an appropriate log file. Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I'm pretty sure kdm is installed. X does not start. When installing Suse 10.3, I did not have an internet connection. Do you think that could have affected it?
Sorry, No log can be made. It is not a directory. I will try GNOME.
Could you attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Thanks.
Found the Problem! I have a Logitech Mouse. Opensuse sees it as Logitech MX Mouse. It is related to bug report # 262317. X Server Fails to Load due to the fact I have a Logitech mouse. It says "X Server cannot start because there is no mouse attached." I pressed ok and it says "The X Server is now disabled. Restart GDM when it is configured correctly." I tried booting up with my HP Mouse, But it still wants to look for the Logitech Mouse. I will probably have to reinstall. GNOME was the only version that told me that it was the mouse. KDE did not tell me anything. I will try reinstalling tomarrow.
No need to reinstall with your HP mouse. Just run "sax2 -r" to reconfigure X11. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 262317 ***
Thanks for your help! Are you going to fix this error in the Final Release?
