Description Boyd Timothy 2007-09-17 17:57:41 UTC
Many other online wiki sites allow users to subscribe/watch a wiki page and be notified via email when the page is modified. Although a watchlist is currently available on the openSUSE wiki right now, it requires me to log in to the wiki and check manually.

With email notification [1], users who set it up in their preferences can be alerted to important changes much more quickly.

Can we get an update on the progress here? When can we plan on seeing this?
Comment 2 Martin Lasarsch 2007-11-16 11:27:49 UTC
my plan is to enable it on Monday.
Comment 3 Martin Lasarsch 2007-11-19 17:47:41 UTC
it's enabled, please check it. It send mails on all articles you ever touched (only if another user makes changes). If i understand it correctly ...

enable it in your user prefs. Let's test it a few days before we announce it.
Comment 4 Boyd Timothy 2007-11-29 16:32:02 UTC
I've enabled it in my preferences (by checking the "Send me an email on page changes") but I haven't received any emails. Is it working for you Martin?
Comment 5 Martin Lasarsch 2007-11-29 16:37:39 UTC
yes, it only works on pages you changed before. So change a page, send me the link, i will change something and you should recieve a mail. You will not when you change it yourself ...
Comment 6 Boyd Timothy 2007-11-29 19:37:46 UTC
Ah, correction. I do get notified. Is there any way to make it so it sends the changes to me _in_ the email so I don't actually have to visit the wiki page to see what changed? http://live.gnome.org/ has this feature and it's extremely handy.
Comment 7 Forgotten User nqeDWc8OMK 2007-11-29 20:01:03 UTC
was this change implemented only on the en wiki?
I mostly work with the es wiki, and I didn't receive any notification since activation.
Comment 8 Martin Lasarsch 2007-11-30 19:26:00 UTC
#6: i don't know. our mediawiki version is quite old, i didn't found more options to tune it. Yes, we should update sometime soon.
#7: it's a global feature, please check the accountsettings
Comment 9 Forgotten User nqeDWc8OMK 2007-12-13 12:21:11 UTC
I can confirm is working fine.
Comment 10 Andreas Jaeger 2008-02-19 12:29:52 UTC
INfo provided.
Comment 13 Thomas Schmidt 2010-01-20 12:01:36 UTC
Assigning to new wiki team. Klaas wanted to add support for hermes in the wiki notifications.
Comment 14 Thomas Schmidt 2010-02-18 10:58:52 UTC
The notifications are working on the staging system.
Mehle: Could you please enable postfix on wiki.o.o and check if it's working?
Comment 15 Matthew Ehle 2010-03-02 21:25:04 UTC
We have hermes support added in now... marking as resolved.
Comment 16 Thomas Schmidt 2010-03-03 09:06:38 UTC
The Hermes support is additional, as it cannot create a subscription for the watched pages of a user. Could you please check the postfix settings on
wiki.o.o so we could also enble the wiki notifications?
(They are enabled in the wiki, but not being delivered, maybe /var/log/mail
contains something interesting).
Comment 17 Matthew Ehle 2010-03-04 20:35:52 UTC
Could I get some more detail on what is needed in this case? I'm assuming you need basic sendmail. Is this correct?
Comment 18 Thomas Schmidt 2010-03-05 09:44:32 UTC
That's right, the setup with postfix on the staging server seems to work,
I am getting the email notifications from there.
Comment 19 Thomas Schmidt 2010-03-08 10:39:55 UTC
Mail notifications are working now for en.opensuse.org
Comment 20 Matthew Ehle 2010-03-08 15:20:46 UTC
Sorry, I forgot to mark this as resolved. Yes, I did get sendmail set up on all the wiki servers a few days ago. Thank you for verifying.
