Bugzilla – Bug 354903
Installation aborts after error message
Last modified: 2008-04-22 14:14:31 UTC
Hello. I´m not able to install Aplha 1, because installation finished with error: Failure occurred during following action: Mounting /dev/sda1 to /windows/C System error code was: -3003 mount -r -t ntfs -ousers,gid=users,fmask=133,dmask=022 /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows/C mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I´d like to provide more information like fstab during installation, but i´m not able to get to command line.System seems frozen. I created similar bug 309074, but it wasn´t solved yet.And in this case i´m sure that windows was shut down correctly :-) Regards, Rasto

I installed Aplha 1 without mounted of ntfs partition and then i tried to mount ntfs via yast2, but it was unsuccessful too. I got error about RAID which is mentioned on snapshot2.But i don't have RAID.

Your device /dev/sda1 is neither mountable by the new ntfs-3g filesystem driver nor by the old (readonly) ntfs filesystem driver. Not much I can do here . Mounting using ntfs-3g shows the following error message: Failed to read $MFTMirr: Input/output error Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or you have hardware faults, or you have a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows TWICE. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If you have SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first you must activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation. This is something kernel people need to look at.
Can you provide the output of 'hwinfo' after you attempt to mount the file system? This seems like your RAID array isn't getting detected correctly, but without more information there's no way to tell.
As i wrote in comment #5, i don't use RAID.And now i'm back on openSUSE 10.3.When Alpha2 will be released i'll provide next info. Btw, Bug 355454 sounds me like this bug, maybe his provider can provide the output hwinfo.
This problem still exists with Alpha2. Generelly I think yast shouldn't abort the installation, because this is just a minor error.
I can confirm also it still does not work in Aplha2. As for me, severity would be Blocker not only Major.

A total Blocker for me too, install fails on 2 different xp-systems with Alpha2.
Jeff, NEEDINFO already there in comment #13.
