Description Quentin Jackson 2008-04-23 23:34:44 UTC
Apologies if this is a duplicate but there is so much detail in these wireless bugs that is beyond my ability.

In my case using the above driver with no wireless encryption (for testing purposes) I cannot connect to a wireless network using network manager or traditional ifup. It seems to fail on DHCP request. I'll try keep 11 on for a few days incase someone wants me to post some logs however with the most fundamental part not working I will have to go back to 10.3 shortly :(

DMESG output below:

Comment 1 Quentin Jackson 2008-04-23 23:51:39 UTC
FYI, the firewall logs here looked suspicious so I tried disabling that with no luck. Also suspicious is the line: Apr 24 11:15:52 linux dhclient: wmaster0_rename: unknown hardware address type
801

DHCP works fine on the wired ethernet connection. Also just checked and a static IP fixes the issue so I guess I can live with that for the short term.
Comment 2 Christoph Thiel 2008-04-28 14:21:54 UTC
Helmut, I have the same warnings in my logs, but wlan is working correctly on Factory installation from Today.

Quentin, could you please make sure to have the package iwl3945-ucode installed?
If it isn't installed, get the lastests version from: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-Factory-non-oss/inst-source-extra/suse/noarch/
Comment 3 Helmut Schaa 2008-04-28 18:26:17 UTC
(In reply to comment #1 from Quentin Jackson)
> wmaster0_rename: unknown hardware address type

This line is no problem. It just tells us that wmaster0_rename is not a wireless interface.

Firmware seems to be installed as otherwise a association would not be possible (see dmesg in comment #0).

Quentin, could you please try the following:

$ rcnetwork stop
$ ifconfig wlan0 up
$ iwconfig wlan0 essid your_essid

Wait a few seconds and attach the output of dmesg.

$ dhcpcd wlan0

Verify if you got an IP using ifconfig.

Thanks.
Comment 4 Quentin Jackson 2008-04-29 06:57:09 UTC
Unfortunately I couldn't work with no network so had to uninstall OpenSuSE 11. :( However in the spirit of things I will attempt to re-install again soon :)

Comment 6 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-06 06:16:04 UTC
Right, I have gotten hold of another laptop so this one is spare again for the time being. I have re-installed with Beta2 and same problem exists. I notice that I'm not being prompted for any passwords with this whatsoever, or keychains etc. I remember there was a call logged for that particular bug so I'm not sure if this is part of that or not, I'll go hunting for it in a minute and see if I can resolve using the steps there. In the meantime I'll leave this closed until I find out.
Comment 7 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-06 06:36:19 UTC
OK, I couldn't find that one, in any case I notice something which looks like a clue after running the above ifconfig wlan0 up. Pasted below. I'm re-opening this not that I'm back on track.

I have reset the router back to no encryption for testing. I then ran the rcnetwork stop etc. I have attached dmesg rather than pasting due to it's size.
Comment 9 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-06 06:52:39 UTC
In case it wasn't obvious, I did not get an IP, well, I got 169.254.156.81 which is as good as no ip :)
Comment 10 Dennis Sieben 2008-05-09 11:55:01 UTC
I can confirm this bug for Beta 2 too. Notebook is a ThinkPad T61 here. Note that this is related to the 4965 module not the 3945. I was a little bit confused reading through the comments because Christoph Thiel suggested to load the newest iwl3945-ucode package. But that's not the right one for this module
Comment 11 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-10 02:37:38 UTC
Yes I do have that same card, thanks for pointing it out! I just want to get past this so I can find other bugs and make this a usable OS for me right from 11.0 unlike the 10 series which I had to wait til 10.3 :)
Comment 12 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-14 08:40:15 UTC
Hmmm, anybody doing anything about this one? Means I can't bug check any of these lovely betas. Plus it's a regression.
Comment 13 Dennis Sieben 2008-05-14 09:55:19 UTC
Maybe we should raise the severity to major or critical. This card is used in many new notebooks. So a distribution without a working solution for this has a critical bug IMHO. Furthermore this was running in 10.3. So it's a great regression.
Comment 14 Casual J. Programmer 2008-05-14 12:09:45 UTC
Could be a duplicate of Bug 283724 too, please check.
Comment 15 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-14 20:17:43 UTC
Yes, I think the priority should be raised too. FYI that bug looks unrelated a) the fault seems different, b) the fault was present in 10.3, this wasn't, these cards work perfectly from 10.3. I've raised it to Major, not sure if I want to cause all the personalities to have a fit by raising it higher but feel free to do so cause this sort of thing should really be a blocker, but I bet there will be many opinions on that! I just want to test it and as such I'm missing out on making this distro better :(
Comment 16 Helmut Schaa 2008-05-15 07:03:56 UTC
Quentin, to advance with this bug I need some more information. The dmesg-output from comment #1 differs from what I can see in comment #7. Perhaps this bug currently covers two bugs?

What is the current state in Beta3?
Can you connect using a static IP setup?
Can you manually connect using wpa_supplicant (if you need instructions feel free to ask)?
Comment 17 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-15 07:16:56 UTC
Hmmm, I checked this morning and didn't see Beta 3 there yet. Will have another look, install it and post dmesg and retry a static ip and wpa supplicant etc.
Comment 18 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-15 07:19:36 UTC
Nope no Beta 3 that I can see, can you perhaps point me to a Delta ISO?
Comment 19 Helmut Schaa 2008-05-15 08:09:15 UTC
Oops, Beta3 wasn't released yet :) It is scheduled for today, just wait some time.
Comment 20 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-16 07:00:32 UTC
Right, have gotten beta3. Did a clean install on a spare machine formatting everything. Right click knetwork manager, edit connections, new connection, wireless. (That is actually quite nice). I put in my WPA etc and the wireless bar goes halfway like normal, then goes to the end like normal, then wheelspins (not like normal) :)

Attaching dmesg as text file again, will try next step.

Deleted that connection and made one same but with static ip. The connection appears to have worked (ie the signal strength is up and the state is activated. However it does not work. Won't even ping the local router. Have attached dmesg3.txt for this one.

Comment 24 Quentin Jackson 2008-05-16 07:26:55 UTC
Couldn't quite get the hang of wpa supplicant, but by switching the router to wep, I now have a connection. So I guess that means this is a WPA issue now (I'd say a lot has been fixed thankfully) so out of the above logs would this be a duplicate or a new bug? I think I need to let you guys make that decision!

Thanks!
Comment 25 Dennis Sieben 2008-05-19 09:17:07 UTC
The bug at my side seems to has gone completely. I tried to connect successfully to a non-hidden WEP Wlan and a hidden WPA one. So for me everythings fine now in this area. But the system reacts slowly compared to the last Beta. I will open a new bug for this if I have enough details...
Comment 26 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 07:13:04 UTC
Well, I just installed RC1 on my laptop (been running it on a desktop for a while for testing. This bug seems to still persist. I cannot get a wireless connection to my linksys router running wpa. Relevant output of var log messages below:

Comment 29 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 07:52:06 UTC
Hmmm, seems I could connect with WEP before, well it doesn't seem to now, not even with a static IP.
Comment 30 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 07:59:36 UTC
I think this is still a DHCP issue. I turned all encryption off and attempted connection with only a MAC address filter. I entered a static IP and can see in /var/log/messages that it is still sending a DHCP discover. I think this new client is the problem. Will try good old ifup next.
Comment 31 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:09:31 UTC
Wow this bug is bad. When I switch to ifup mode the wired connection stops working! Grrrr. And I'm getting a lot of the below errors now too, does it really need to go there to install kinternet? Off to the repos manually I suppose but first I've got to re-enable network manager to get there.

Download (curl) error for 'http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.0/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code:
Error message: Couldn't resolve host 'download.opensuse.org'
Comment 32 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:16:31 UTC
When doing an ifup wlan0 I get the below which may be a big clue to someone if I'm lucky! :)

ifup wlan0
wlan0 device: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN Network Connection (rev 61)
    wlan0 warning: using NO encryption
command 'iwconfig wlan0 nick exlt01' returned

Comment 33 Casual J. Programmer 2008-06-15 08:25:25 UTC
Please be sure to read Bug 393801 as well, there might be some identical issues..
Comment 34 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:26:08 UTC

I might try the patch from 389668 but no idea how to apply it... anyone?

Yikes bug 393801 is complex! The issues might be identical, they don't sound it though, however I'll try updating dhcpcd from factory.
Comment 36 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:44:13 UTC
OK updated dhcp-client, dhcp and dhcpcd with no effect, disabling ipv6 and rebooting I've seen that being a problem on some routers but never on mine, I'm clutching at straws!
Comment 37 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:54:26 UTC
It get's weirder, after reboot it now will not see any devices on the local LAN but sees the internet fine. I really want this to be fixed for GM but it's hard to not uninstall it with this many problems.
Comment 38 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 08:59:04 UTC
After putting it back to using network manager it hasn't turned on any of the network manager tools, ie there is no icon for eth0, wlan0 or the manager tool. Man this network manager is buggy. Maybe it's something to do with another one of those bloody cannot contact the online repository message during the enabling of network manager mode. I have no idea why it consistently tries to contact the online repositories for a simple config change.

I give up, I'm going to bed. If anyone has any ideas of where I can go from here, please let me know or I'll just uninstall it and go back to 10.3 :(
Comment 39 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-15 09:00:49 UTC
FYI I think this should be changed to a blocker. If the network stuff is this buggy and I don't see any chance that it's only my computer, there is no way this should be going gold like this. I noticed before disabling the eth0 with the network manager icon also didn't work, yet another thing, you guys have your work cut out for you that's for sure!

That error message is noncritical.
Comment 41 Helmut Schaa 2008-06-16 09:26:12 UTC
Quentin, could you please try wpa_supplicant as already suggested in comment #16 as I cannot reproduce this issue with my iwl4965.

(In reply to comment #16 from Helmut Schaa)

I started to write a wpa_suppicant howto at [1] but that is not ready yet.

Here are some additional comments. I have a new Lenovo T61 and it also uses the iwl4965 driver discussed here. I have no wireless connectivity until I install the ipw driver from the RC1 DVD, ipw-firmware-8-81.noarch.rpm and reboot. If you use the ipw-firmware-8-82.noarch.rpm from the factory non-oss repo, you'll lose connectivity as soon as you reboot.

I've reproduced this several times on reinstalling opensuse 11.0 rc1 for one reason or another.

Standard install, iwl4965,no connectivity.

Add ipw driver, configure wireless card, reboot and you have connectivity.
Comment 43 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-18 08:45:02 UTC
Thanks! That seems to be a gem of information, interestingly I don't actually have any ipw firmware installed according to rpm -qa |grep ipw. Installed your version rebooted and!..... nothing.

OK Manual with wpa_supplicant.

rcnetwork stop
killall wpa_supplicant

iwlist wlan0 scan
(Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down (though it does scan via the gui and I know the name anyway)

iwlist wlan0 essid getalife
(same network is down message)

OK did the wpa supplicant config file as described and ran the command. I see it can't find wpa_supplicant unless I'm logged in as root (in case that's a problem)

Attached output, I have no idea how to tell if this worked or didn't!
Comment 44 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-18 08:48:12 UTC
Created attachment 222686 [details]
WPA Log

Probably sensitive information but if it helps I'll gladly change my passkey.
Comment 45 Helmut Schaa 2008-06-18 09:41:21 UTC
Quentin, the wpa_supplicant output shows a successful connection:

1213777685.834345: CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to 00:1d:7e:aa:1d:4a comple

Therefore the driver and wpa_supplicant work as expected.
Comment 46 Helmut Schaa 2008-06-18 09:46:14 UTC
Could you please rerun wpa_supplicant and start "dhcpcd wlan0" on a separate console? Do you get an IP?
Comment 47 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-18 19:23:13 UTC
Sorry I actually did that but forgot to write it (tired) and it did not get an ip. I double checked this by runiing ipconfig and it didn't show up (presuming it would have been listed with the wlan adapter, I think it does). But in any case it had displayed that the address was a 169 address in var/log/messages. I can of course run it again if you need anything specific.
Comment 48 Helmut Schaa 2008-06-19 06:34:18 UTC
Could you please verify if setting a static IP (ifconfig wlan0 x.x.x.x) allows you to ping the AP (of course after the wireless connection is set up with wpa_supplicant)?
Comment 49 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-19 06:51:10 UTC
OK It did seem to take a while to become active but eventually I could ping an internet address with a static ip, cool! So I guess that fairly puts it back into the DHCP court which was my original suspicion. I must have picked up some womens intuition somewhere! :) yeah right.

Comment 53 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-19 08:21:09 UTC
You're welcome of course but thanks for looking at it. I'm hoping this will work out of the box with GM, or at worst there will be an update out real soon :)
Comment 54 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-21 23:21:38 UTC
FYI, I've done a complete install of OpenSuSE 11 GM from scratch (with online updates) and wiped out my home directory to make sure there's no config still lying around and the problem persists. I didn't expect it would be fixed but thought I'd pre-empt it anyway :)
Comment 55 Helmut Schaa 2008-06-25 08:49:25 UTC
Maybe this is a duplicate of bug#402575. Quentin, could you please verify if the solution pointed out in comment #5 works for you?
Comment 56 Quentin Jackson 2008-06-27 04:16:28 UTC
Thanks Helmut, however I don't actually see a solution in that comment, I'm not sure exactly what to do with all that. I have one dhclient file that appears to be a newer one not an older one, do you mean I should uncomment the #script "/sbin/dhclient-script"; line? Sorry, but I don't understand.

Thanks for any help :)

Sorry but is anyone actually looking at this, I think the release party should be over by now ;) hic!
Comment 59 Brian Merrell 2008-07-03 03:10:39 UTC
I had trouble connecting to wireless and finally had success using nm-applet. It might be worth a shot if you haven't tried it.
Comment 60 Brian Merrell 2008-07-03 03:11:51 UTC
I am using iwl3945, by the way.
Comment 61 Kum Fei Poon 2008-07-10 16:04:22 UTC
Hi,

Came across this thread while digging around for a solution to my problem, and thought maybe what I've gotten so far might help in some way:

I've a Lenovo T61 (with the 4965 chip), and the wireless had been fine (both on OpenSUSE 10.3 and 11.0).

I swapped my old Linksys Wireless-G for a new Belkin N Wireless Router, and life went bad. The wireless would connect about 2 tries out of 30, with similar messages as already noted in the thread.

After trying encrypted/unencrypted, SSID broadcast/no broadcast etc, I finally decided to configure the Belkin router to ONLY connect at 802.11g (instead of the default 802.11bgn), and VOILA! Connected with WPA2, no SSID broadcast, and full 54Mbps.

Subsequent Googling seems to indicate that the support for 802.11n might not be present in the iwl4965 module.

regards
kumfei :-)
Comment 62 Quentin Jackson 2008-07-10 22:16:24 UTC
Thanks for the input! I have a linksys wireless n gateway device, I do believe my n support is turned off now, which may explain why I've had two different results in this bug. I think in linksys you turn it off by choosing normal instead of 'wide' band but will have to check. The same laptop worked with n on 10.3 though I can't vouch for whether it was running 'n' speed or not. This is the only real problem with what seems to be an otherwise stable OS, I'd really like to get it resolved, but there doesn't seem to be any real progress or plan to resolve it unfortunately.
Comment 63 Helmut Schaa 2008-07-11 07:40:28 UTC
11n is really not supported yet and may cause strange behavior with some APs.

Quentin, could you please try if locking your router to 11g resolves this issue for you?

Comment 65 Kum Fei Poon 2008-07-11 07:59:34 UTC
Is there a way to disable the 11n on the 4965 instead of the AP? (I've got other users on Windows that would obviously prefer to have 11n available on the AP).

There's a discussion here http://psykil.livejournal.com/324148.html that seems to indicate it's possible, but doesn't really say how. Any ideas?
Comment 66 Quentin Jackson 2008-07-11 08:16:20 UTC
Thanks, already checked and it's disabled already, I recall doing it to check. It's the same router as I had with 10.3 so I guess it's still an OS issue :(

Any word on what might be done about this, or are we stuck and don't know what's causing it?
Comment 68 Helmut Schaa 2008-07-11 10:56:41 UTC

> Is there a way to disable the 11n on the 4965 instead of the AP?

I only wanted to know if disabling 11n fixes the issue for Quentin. It's only a workaround for this issue, not the solution.
Comment 69 Helmut Schaa 2008-07-11 10:59:58 UTC

To me it looks like the wireless connection can be set up correctly, only the DHCP request seems to fail. But I have absolutely no idea why.

Btw. iwl4965 and DHCP works fine for my setup here.

Maybe Marius has an idea? :)

Quentin,
when I take a look to the attachment #215829 [details] (comment #23), it looks like
a strange configuration. It seems, you've connected both the eth0 and
wlan0 interfaces to the wireless router and both interfaces are on the
same network:

SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.101 DST=224.0.0.251 LEN=64 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=255 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=5353 DPT=5353 LEN=44

ll header: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:1f:3b:70:4d:77:08:00

Your routing table contains two routes to the same network (ip route show)
using both interfaces:

or like this (route -n):

correct?

Well this can not work, because the kernel will always use the first
eth0 interface, never wlan0 (except you specify a program to bind to
the interface, e.g. using "ping -I wlan0 192.168.1.102").

Further, I'd say there are some problems with the wireless driver:

== About dhcp:

First of all, there are _two_ _different_ dhcp clients & packages,
both in version 3.x. But it are completely different clients.

- package dhcpcd-3.2.3-*, binary /sbin/dhcpcd, no config (command
  line arguments).

This client is used by "ifup" by default, supports multiple
interfaces -- but not on same network :-)
  The DHCLIENT_BIN variable in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp
defines which client is used by "ifup".

kinternet can (must not!) be used, when the USERCONTROL variable
is set to "yes" in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-*.

- package dhcp-client-3.0.6-*, binary /sbin/dhclient, config
  file /etc/dhclient.conf.
When used in "ifup", setup script is /sbin/dhclient-script.

This client is used by NetworkManager with a different script
  (/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action).
The NetworkManager may fail, when the /etc/dhclient.conf
contains a active script line (because of an update).

NetworkManager is started by rcnetwork when the
  NETWORKMANAGER="yes" is set in /etc/sysconfig/network/config.

== How to continue.

- Stop & Disable SuSEfirewall2 using

  SuSEfirewall2 stop
  insserv -r /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_setup
  insserv -r /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_init

You can enable it later by
    insserv /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_init
    insserv /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_setup

_and_ configure it using "yast2 firewall" when you've an
  working network.

- Verify that the MAC filter on your router does not break
  the configuration.

* Using ifup:

  - rcnetwork stop
  - Set NETWORKMANAGER="no" in /etc/sysconfig/network/config.
  - Set DHCLIENT_BIN="" (or dhcpcd) in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp.
  - Delete both, eth0 and wlan0 configurations in yast2, that is
    all /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-* files _except_ ifcfg-lo.
  - Configure wlan0 interface with dhcp in YaST2
  - rcnetwork restart
  - test it.

  When it does not work:
  - rcnetwork stop
  - Configure wlan0 interface with static IP in YaST2
  - rcnetwork restart
  - test, if you can ping the IP of the wireless router
and another IP's on the network.
  - test, if you can ping IPs outside of your network, e.g.
195.135.220.3 (www.suse.de) when you add a default route
using "ip route add default via IP_OF_YOUR_ROUTER".
  - delete the default route ("ip route del default") and
call "dhcpcd-test wlan0". When this works, change to
"dhcp" in yast2 (or set BOOTPROTO="dhcp" in ifcfg-wlan0)
    and test again.

When this all does not work, please provide "iwconfig wlan0",
"ip addr show", "ip route show" and "dhcpcd-test wlan0"
outputs and the messages from /var/log/message since the
  last boot.

* Using NetworkManager:
  - rcnetwork stop
  - Make sure there is no script line in /etc/dhclient.conf
  - Set NETWORKMANAGER="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/network/config.
  - Delete both, eth0 and wlan0 configurations in yast2, that is
    all /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-* files _except_ ifcfg-lo.
  - rcnetwork start (starts network manager)
  - Use network manager applet in your desktop to configure
    the interfaces.

== Using two interfaces:

Using two interfaces almost always needs special configuration,
especially when they're (may be) connected to the same network.

The ifup script tries to handle the case where you are connected
to two different networks, by disabling setting of default route
   etc. on the second interface.

What you can do is to use "ifplugd" to configure only the connected
   interface, that is:
   - Configure both interfaces with YaST2
   - Set STARTMODE="ifplugd" in the ifcfg-* file of both interfaces
   - Set IFPLUGD_PRIORITY="10" for one interface
   - Set IFPLUGD_PRIORITY="20" for another interface

Quentin, can you try out to set up and test as described above
with one interface and static IPs first?
Comment 71 Marius Tomaschewski 2008-07-14 11:53:08 UTC
And please use 11.0 final if possible or write which sysconfig, dhcpcd,
dhcp-client versions you are using (rpm -qa | grep -E "sysconfig|dhcp").
Comment 72 Quentin Jackson 2008-07-15 05:59:21 UTC
Thanks for the obvious effort above, I do have 11 Retail Box courtesy of SuSE/Novell now so I have that installed. I also remembered I have a non-N style wireless router floating around so it's possible to test that whole theory too, but the N router woked on 10.3 so I don't see why it would be that. Am progressing with the above now, though the fact someone else can run with 4965 no problem is concerning. FYI this is on an HP 8510w laptop.
Comment 73 Quentin Jackson 2008-07-15 06:01:01 UTC
One more point, I understand the whole route thing with two cards on one network. However a network manager should and in 10.3 'did' take care of it on between the two cards for me. I have a docking station which uses wired in the office and the rest of the house I use wireless. I don't see this as being particularly uncommon at all. Right, on with following the above. :)

OK, I believe the (long) below should satisfy your requirements, please let me know if it doesn't.

OK, the link does not work using static configuration.
OK. the static ip configuration looks good in the "ip

No, it isn't. The dhcp client just send discover requests
and does not get any answer from dhcp server.

When you take a look into the messages where dhclient got
an leases for eth0 interface - it needed >40 seconds for.
Was the router off or still booting?

My linksys (fritzbox similary) answers immediately:

It looks for me, that you sometimes have an association, but it also

Yes, the driver has a problem. Neither static nor dhcp configuration works.
There was an association, but for 1 second or something like this. There is
some driver problem - it clearly reports "Microcode SW error detected.".

Quentin:
Does the hardware still works on Windows? Maybe the firmware is corrupt...

Sorry, but I can't do anything from dhcp / sysconfig side here => Helmut.

That's NetworkManager/wpa_supplicant bringing the connection down, not the AP.

iwl3945 works pretty well with all APs I have here for testing. The "Microcode SW error detected" is fixed in newer kernels already.

That should be iwl4965 of course.

Have similar problems on Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG with traditional ifup and static IP.
If two older wlan devices are active (Netgear WGE111 and FritzBox SL Wlan) the Intel card works well. If only the FritzBox SL is running then the connection is first established and then breaks after a few seconds:

Just to answer the few previous questions:

No, the router was not off or rebooting plus the DHCP server in that router was working via ethernet cable right before starting this test.

Also I did try but forgot to mention this setup running on windows on the same computer going to the same AP (so only difference was windows vs linux) and it didn't miss a beat. Plus as I've said, the same machine works under Opensuse 10.3 perfectly.

Sorry about not attaching above, I believe the instructions I was sent to read said not to attach things, thought sounds like I must have misread that.
Comment 82 Forgotten User LQbRipXdCY 2008-07-17 20:34:15 UTC
For me it appears as a regression from opensuse10.3.
Btw, I use WPA-PSK as authentification mode.

I just see in the log, that it needed > 40 secs to get a lease from this
router over the cable (eth0): start at 18:25:36, got IP at 18:26:18...
I'm using a Fritz!Box 7270 as AP with dhcp on a linksys connected to it
via cable and get an IP in <= 1 second. But this was an eth0 interface
and IMO a different story.

Yes, as far as I see, there is a problem with the driver so the association
with the AP breaks.
See also comment #79, Klaus can reproduce similar problems -- even if there
is a difference: deauthenticated vs. disassociate.

Not a problem, never mind. I didn't asked to attach, just to provide.
Comment 84 Quentin Jackson 2008-08-27 06:50:43 UTC
FYI, I got a new router that is not an 'n' wireless router and now I can connect. I have no idea if it is the 'n' function causing the issue or something else, I only mention it because someone else did previously in the notes. I don't believe the router was faulty as it worked in Windows and on 10.3.

Possibly broken again in 11.1b4?

I cannot connect in an updated 11.0 or 11.1b4. I will try 11.1b3 next.

I will note that my 4965 worked absolutely great until the most recent kernel
update. Now I cannot dhcp an address at all with that interface. A zd1211rw
(USB 802.11g) works fine and so does the built-in intel eepro/1000.

Current kernel revision: 2.6.25.18-0.2-default

Possibly related (even though the following references a newer kernel?)

Comment 91 Jon Nelson 2008-11-10 00:09:43 UTC
I just finished rebooting into 2.6.25.16-0.1-default.

I was able to connect just fine, the first time, and the entire connect took approx. 4 seconds.

There appears to be a *REGRESSION* between 2.6.25.18-0.2 and 2.6.25.16-0.1. The latter works, the former doesn't (for the 4365).

Thanks for the info.

However as 11.1 is shipping 2.6.27 which has a huge number of iwlwifi patches and should behave much better than 2.6.25 I close this one as FIXED now. If anybody experiences connection issues in 11.1 again please open a new bug report.
