Happens to me with every log-in to KDE4, at least one crash, sometimes more. This is on a fresh install of opensuse 11 beta 1, plus regular updates from factory since.

I can trigger this very easily: scroll with the mouse wheel over the desktop chooser in the panel to switch between the desktops a few times. knotify4 will then crash within a few seconds after stopping

I have 11rc1, after updating kdebase4-runtime to 4.0.4-19 knotify started to crash. All reports mentioned phonon_xine as the source. After disabling sound in notfiy settings (system settings), the problem went away.

Crashes where quite random, occurred at most of kde apps.

I'm running 11.0 x68_64 with KDE4.1 beta2 (through 1-click install) and this still exists. The workaround from #15 works for me as well.

I'm running GM and also experience crashes of KNotify. Just installed latest patches and it only got more!

It happens every time together with a phonon message that it was switching to another sound driver (?), but I don't know what causes what.

Ok, stopped rcalsasound and have fewer crashes. Here a little from my experience:

I type something at the command prompt in konsole and press Tab to complete the command. Then KNotofy crashes with this info:

After two or three times, the command completes or shows suggestions, and KNotify does not crash. Happens both as user as well as root.

Workaround: Do not use KDE soundsystem, instead switch to say mplayer.

I have to assume all those reports are from opensuse systems. In that case the bug lies in a distri-patch to phonon-xine. The opensuse bug tracker has enough reports about the issue already, so just wait for an updated package with the patch removed.

I think we need to get this fixed for 11.0, the number of duplicates
