Hi All !

This request is more Compiz than XGL related, but anyway...

Compiz, compared to other "3D scene manager" - Sun's "Looking Glass 3D" - lacks one important feature - namely: capability to create 3D desktop applications.

In other words Compiz (just like Vista Aero Glass) is a 3D space for managing 2D applications, while "Looking Glass 3D" is a 3D space for managing both 2D *and* 3D applications.

"Looking Glass 3D" is not a production desktop environment, but just (demo) proof-of-concept of what is possible to achieve.

Basically this request is asking about the possibility to add ability (API) to build 3D applications around compiz.

My Article about "Looking Glass 3D":
http://forgeftp.novell.com/lfl/.html/lg3d.html

That article explains the future of 3D desktop environments, shows how-to install it on openSUSE and shows how such 3D desktop applications are working.

I don't think this is the right address for such a feature request. I suggest to discuss this on the appropriate openSUSE mailing list and once the community comes to a conclusion, how such a desktop should look like, and who will work on it, open a feature request in openFate.
