Description Salvatore Brigaglia 2008-10-09 21:14:47 UTC
Some weeks ago, when i inserted an usb drive (any filesystem) it was mounted automatically and sown in DeviceNotifier applet already mounted.

Now if i insert the same device it is recognise by DeviceNotifier and shonw, but not mounted. To mount it i have to click on DeviceNotifier's device icon or open dolphin and click on the device icon.

With those steps it mount and unmount perfectly.

Why kde4 from factory dows not automunt usb volumes?

Actually kde4 never automounted unless one has some configs left over from kde3, where one could set the actions taken when a removeable media was connected.

I am not sure why this is marked as a duplicate of Bug #383176. The relation was not clear to me.

Rather I think the Salvatore might like to try the solution proposed in comment #2 of Bug #447932

That may bring back the desired behavior, I'm not sure what it will do for remembering the path of mounted devices which seems to be issue in Bug #383176
But of course one needs to mount and eject devices successfully before remounting them, so if this fix works maybe solving Bug #383176 can now proceed?

If the suggested fix does work perhaps the OP can mark this as a duplicate of Bug #447932 ? or vice versa.
Comment 3 Salvatore Brigaglia 2009-04-11 08:54:59 UTC
I don't think this solution is working right. I have 11.1 now with KDE4 factory and if i do polkit-auth i get org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.eject
 among others.

The behaviour is the same.

The solution at this point shoult be gui related and not hal related because of what kde devs wants to avoid concurrent sessions to generate conflicts on using removable devices. Even if i think that this problem affects a little percentage of the users being others happy with the "straight-mount" behaviour.

don't kon what to say. it's clearly not a bug now. It is more a wish and should be upstream (witch in fact is

Thanks for the KDE upstream link.

I am not sure what 11.1 has to do with this bug report. This bug was and still is reported as a 11.0 Final bug.
The bug status indicates 'resolved', but no target is mentioned - implying a 11.0 resolution - no?

In 11.0 if you insert, say, a dvd, it shows in the device notifier. Select the notifier item and Dolphin opens fine and shows the device, but Dolphin errors out when you click on it, if you make the policy kit changes suggested then selecting the device in Dolphin will work fine - this is all in 11.0.

It seems then that this bug is still open for 11.0...

Hopefully someone can indicate if this is going to be resolved for 11.0 with a patch?

From Salvatore's comment #3 it sounds like the fix suggested was implemented in 11.1, which is good to know.
This would seems to make it the 'recommended fix' for 11.0?

I'm still struggling to see how this relates to Bug #383176, which is open, but seems to be closer to a feature request.
