Bugzilla – Bug 445376
totem: doesn't honor screen aspect ratio anymore
Last modified: 2009-01-21 13:32:27 UTC
If screen aspect was configured in sax2, totem in SL110 correctly adjusted video output to match the screen aspect. On SL111b5, this doesn't work anymore leaving no good way to configure screen aspect ratio on non-standard displays.
Hrm. Don't you have a few options to play with this in the "View" (or "Display", don't know the english name) menu in totem?
Well, combination of 4:3/16:9 button on the projector and the aspect options of totem, I can usually get about the right aspect ratio but the problem here is that on SL110 I didn't have to do that. If I configure screen ration correctly in sax2, totem just knew the actual screen ratio and didn't require any diddling. So, it's a regression and would be nice if SL111 can work as SL110 did.
Federico, you're the xrandr guru: do you know of anything that could help here?
I'm not sure I understand the problem --- doesn't Totem just look at the size of your screen (or the monitor in which the Totem window is) and use that?
Okay, my projector has the screen size ratio of 16:9 but it's resolution is 1024x768. On SL110, if I tell X that the screen ratio is 16:9 via sax, when playing video, totem understands that although the screen size ratio by the number of pixels is 4:3, the actual viewing area ratio is 16:9 and scales the output accordingly. However, on SL111, this doesn't happen and totem just outputs 1:1 resulting in too wide output. ie. 4:3 video becomes 16:9 and 16:9 becomes 2.37:1.
Okay, I've forwarded this upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=568544 Tejun: if you have a GNOME bugzilla account, it's worth adding you to this bug because the totem people will probably have questions.
Tejun: questions from Bastien in the upstream bug: What's the output of xdpyinfo? Which backend were you using with Totem 2.22 and 2.24?
Thanks for shepherding the bug. I'll add myself on the gnome bz.
