Bugzilla – Bug 473518
keyboars starts reacting on key presses with great delay
Last modified: 2009-02-10 19:14:41 UTC
Hello, It seems I have found a good way to reproduce this issue: 1. Start inkscape 2. Draw random shape with calligraphic tool - it must have a big number of nodes 3. Switch to path node edit mode (Edit paths by nodes), so the nodes of the drawn shape would appear 4. Hold the shift key and start selecting random nodes in the path on by one for a while (and from time to time press up/down buttons on the keyboard without releasing the shift key) After a while (5-10 seconds, can't say exactly, but not too long) stop doing this and try to press CAPS LOCK key - nothing would happen (the lamp indicator on the keyboard won't change its state), other keys will not work either. The first impression is keyboard is broken or X.org hanged, but this is not so - all apps are running as they did and the mouse works perfectly. Also after some experiments I have understood that keyboard is also working, but I have to hold the key for 2-3 seconds before the correct key would be typed. Restarting X solves the issue. Suspending to disk and starting the suspended session again preserves the issue. I also received this issue when did similar things - selected nodes holding ctrl - in blender (3d modeler), but just holding ctrl and clicking on the screen with the mouse does not give me the same result. I am running OpenSUSE 11.0 with X.org installed from build service: rpm -qi xorg-x11-server Name : xorg-x11-server Version : 7.4 Release : 25.2
This also looks much like the bug described here, but I'm not sure: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=453399
Hi there, could you look in http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:X and post your server log also? Thanks.

You're another victim, who stumbled across the Slowkeys feature for handicapped people. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 106886 ***
Ok, But how can I disable it? Did not find a solution in the original bug thread. This section looks like the solution: >> beep you get when en/disabling Slowkeys by pressing Shift for minimum of 8 >> seconds, but I never succeeded in doing so. :-( >For me Slowkeys has been off for a long time now. >I'm not 100% sure why some guys get slowkeys turned on. I think this had been >enabled a long time ago by default, but it isn't any longer. But this does not work - holding shift for 8 seconds does not disable this "feature" when I got it enabled. Also just holding shift for 8 seconds will not enable it either - this works only with inkscape/blender. I also do not remember that I could enable something similar in yast (and did not find such option right now); I also installed fresh 11.0 system on a new computer this autumn (did not update it from some ancient one) - this contradicts the fact that this feature is disabled by default for a long time (even in 2006 year). Can anybody try it on fresh system? - the way described with inkscape enables it in 100% of cases.
