Yast2 seems to have problems when pc uses proxy with authentication to access internet. Often yast2 reposrts 'timeout' when updating or installing new packages from internet (this also happens when updating the system during installation).
A message box appears that notifies the timeout. When clicking on 'retry' the package is immediately downloaded without problem. But problem sometimes occurs with further packages that are downloaded.
During installation around one hour is wasted for downloading the initial repository descriptions of the update repositories. This is because waiting for timeout and clicking on 'retry' button needs to be done several dozen times!

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.PC needs to use proxy with authentication to access internet.
2.Install or update packages from internet.
3.
Actual Results:
timout occurs. 'retry' button helps to solve issue.

Expected Results:
no timeouts.

yast2 logs

I installed a fresh opensue 11.1 (32bit). During installation I denied updating. After first system boot I did update once.
At the very beginning of the update and for file yast2-qt-pkg-2.17.22_2.17.25-1.1.i586.delta.rpm i got timeout. After clicking on 'retry' button these files were downloaded immediately.

Additional note: If that issue is realted to proxy, please take into account,
that the authentication name is of format 'domain/user'. Due to policy i needed
to exchange original user in yast2 logs by some fake and i forgot to mention the /.

I am having the same exact symptoms with updates.

I have the issue due to my isp and it happens in 10.3 and 11.1 as well.

What I am seeing is that http downloads stop even with wget or other download mechanism.

I am not using a proxy just a direct connection.

When using YaST2 the first thing that happens is an error message pops up that requires user interaction, once you click ok you get the second message that has a timer on it to retry and then download continues. This first popup could use an automatic timeout on it so it goes away and then retries.

The first popup just says "Error Download failed: Timeout exceeded" with an OK button.

The underlying problem I have is my isp, ie not being able to maintain an http download.

What is bugging me about YaST2 is the first popup that requires user interaction to acknowledge the timeout error.

I am not sure this constitutes a bug but it could sure be enhanced to just log the error and move on after 30 seconds and retry.

I have had to turn automatic updates off due to the same problem as zypper logs filled the volume it was writing to. I did not allocate that much space for that volume so it filled.

I'm not sure about your intern handling, but this request is for opensuse 11.1 not for opensuse 10.3
