Bugzilla – Bug 522055
Remote Administration - Displays only grey screen at login
Last modified: 2010-09-28 12:02:58 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 When I attempt to connect via vnc (UltraVNC Viewer -WinXP) to my workstation, all I get is a grey (gray) screen and will disconnect after a few minutes. I have tried the following methods without any success. * rcxdm restart * xinetd restart * init3 / init 5 I have open the appropriate ports on my firewall. The only thing that will work is to reboot the workstation but after a few days the problem will reappear. The "rcxdm restart" trick works under SLES 11. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Run UltraVNC on windows. 2.Connect to my workstation, running opensuse 11.1 through UltraVNC. Actual Results: Grey (gray) screen will display and after a couple of minutes, will disconnect. Reboot workstation and problem temporarily solved then after a couple of days the problem reappears. I am connecting to a kde3 login screen that after login will take me to gnome desktop. I am using xinetd to run the vnc server. All configurations were done through yast.
Something for Reinhard I guess.
Can you reproduce this with one of the VNC viewers that come with openSUSE 11.1?
I can reproduce this problem using an openSUSE 11.1 vnc client
Jose, can you please re-try it after adding a line that says "LISTEN 0.0.0.0" to the end of /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess and restarting the display manager?
I've been having a similar issue with 11.2. After configuring Remote Administration using YaST and attempting to connect from another box, a blank screen appears and nothing happens. I added the above line to the Xaccess file but had the same result. Likewise, if I attempt to connect via a browser to port 5801, I get "connecting to x.x.x.x" followed by "network error: could not connect to" with a "Login again" button.
This has meanwhile been fixed. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 625593 ***
