Description Stephan Kleine 2009-10-12 04:09:05 UTC
Powersave kicks in while watching a movie and turns the screen black (the reason why it doesn't get turned off might be related to Bug 546044).

It doesn't matter if the movie is played in a window or fullscreen. The used player is smplayer from Packman.

KDE is KDE4 from KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop up to date and smplayer version is smplayer-0.6.8-0.pm.2.47.x86_64.
Comment 1 Stephan Kleine 2009-11-16 02:32:01 UTC
Still happens on 11.2 final with current KDE from K:K:F:D
Comment 2 Lubos Lunak 2010-01-02 10:38:11 UTC
X.Org bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25855 . I don't know how many other apps may be affected, but the patch provided there should be pretty safe (you can take it from home:llunak:branches:openSUSE:11.2:xorg-x11-server if you want).

Additionally there is an MPlayer bug that it has -stop-xscreensaver disabled by default. "stop-xscreensaver=1" or as a workaround for now "heartbeat-cmd='qdbus org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver /ScreenSaver SimulateUserActivity'" in ~/.mplayer/config should avoid that.
Comment 3 Stefan Dirsch 2010-01-02 17:24:45 UTC
Upstream.
Comment 4 Stephan Kleine 2010-09-10 01:44:45 UTC
Can we please get an update for this? 11.2 is still supported for much more than a year and that thing is highly annoying for everyone who is trying to watching a movie.

Lubos fixed is months ago and his patch seems to work while doing no harm. So please be so kind to ship that patch as an update. I am perfectly happy to play the guinea pig for it although several other ppl already reported it working with no side effects iirc so it should be pretty safe.
Comment 5 Stefan Dirsch 2010-09-10 02:44:12 UTC
Ok. So you would like to request a maintenance update according to our Maintenance process on http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Maintenance and drive that process, i.e. patch the package, provide patchinfo, etc.? Then please go ahead.
Comment 6 Stephan Kleine 2010-09-10 03:49:31 UTC
Please tell me what I have to provide for "patchinfo". The rest is fine to me.
Comment 7 Stephan Kleine 2010-09-10 03:54:50 UTC
Reassigning to you (Stefan) so it shows up on your list since the needinfo apparently doesn't work (at least it is still shown as fixed).

Feel free to reassign it to me once you explained me what info is needed for some proper "patchinfo".
Comment 8 Stefan Dirsch 2010-09-10 04:08:46 UTC
Everything to be done is explained on http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Maintenance. Please note that openSUSE is a community project, i.e. if you won't do the maintenance update it won't happen. It's that easy.
Comment 9 Stephan Kleine 2010-09-10 06:30:37 UTC
Yeah well, I am perfectly happy to provide what is needed but it just was beyond me what exactly some "patchinfo" would be.
Comment 10 Marcus Meissner 2010-09-10 09:34:18 UTC
the maintenance team does the patchinfo if you cant ...
but first request an update via NEEDINFO maintenance@opensuse.org (step 1)

i would be for an update. +1

+1, update started.

Be so kind and submit the fixed sources against Project openSUSE:11.2:Update:Test

If you can also submit a patchinfo (contains the information about the update), feel free to submit one, otherwise we will do it for you.

Thanks for the explanations, I _think_ I got it right. SR 48386 & 48387
Comment 17 Christian Dengler 2010-09-21 18:17:57 UTC
For the next time, be so kind and use a useful changelog entry.
"Fix bnc #546062" is not very useful for users and developers.

There is another problem. We have got 2 difference not linearly submitted versions:

OLD:
Thu Aug 19 14:21:48 UTC 2010 - max@novell.com

- Prevent the xdmcp code from sending IPv6 link local addresses
to xdm as potential display numbers, because they are unusable
for xdm and e.g. break vnc based remote adminstration.
  (bnc#546632).

Stefan, can you merge them?

Patchinfo is ready. Nothing to do here.

Indeed the changelog entry could be improved.

I don't see that issue. Please verify with 'osc request show -d 48386'.

Thanks.

Things were more complicated. Sources are now merged and available as SR #48736.
