Actual Results:

when/how did this bug get resolved ?

for me (factory-snapshot with 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop) named still crashes and my network setup is broken!

don't use the desktop kernel but the default kernel for your nameserver. There is a bug somewhere but I'm not sure yet what it is.

ACK! default kernel seems to be better -- named now works.

BUT: local name server usage still is broken (see Bug #552555).

just for your records: my name"server" is my notebook which e.g. is a proxy/caching named for my openmoko.

it would be ncie to be able to use the desktop kernel at some point (1000 HZ, no PREEMPT_NONE, ...)
