Bugzilla – Bug 559048
Boot hangs at "Starting udevd", "Loading drivers, configuring devices" until timeout (3 minutes)
Last modified: 2010-02-16 21:20:44 UTC
Created attachment 329908 [details] Boot messages User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.5 Because of bug 548108 I had to install and boot my system with kernel parameter "acpi=ht". Whenever I boot I get messages like on the attached picture (the fsck message of course differ. Proper disk unmouting at shutdown doesn't work either - separate bug report) When it reaches "Starting udevd", "Loading drivers, configuring devices" the boot process hangs for more than three minutes. Even with "acpi=ht" openSUSE - on another partition of the same computer - boots normally without delay. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot system with "acpi=ht" 2.Press <ESC> to see boot messages Actual Results: System nangs at "Starting udevd", "Loading drivers, configuring devices" Boot contunues after about 3 minutes Expected Results: Boot process without major delay Hardware: - CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9550 4x2.2GHz (95W) 65nm Quad Core - Memory: 4GB - 2x2048MB DDR2-800 CL5, Dual Channel 2x1024MB - Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3, AMD 770 / SB600 chipsets - Graphics: NVidia GeForce 7300 GS, 256MB, TV-Out, DVI, PCIe - Floppy: 1.44MB - 1. hard disk: 500GB Seagate 7200 RPM SATA II - 2. hard disk: 500GB Seagate 7200 RPM SATA II - DVD-ROM: Optiarc DDU 1615 16x/48x, IDE - DVD-RW: NEC AD-7200, IDE - SCSI-Controller: Adaptec 2940 SCSI adapter, SCSI ID: 7 - Tape Streamer: Seagate (CONNER) CTT8000-S SCSI Tr 4, SCSI ID: 4 - Scanner: UMAX Astra 610S SCSI SCSI ID: 5 - Card Reader: Apacer AE101, 16 card types - DVB Controller: Technotrend/Hauppauge DVB card rev2.1 - Modem: ELSA MicroLink 56k basic V90 - Webcam: Lifetec LT 9338 USB Camera

I am not sure whether the problems regarding hang of sane-fine-scanner reported in bug 559046 are caused by the problem reported here.
Clarification to original report 4th paragraph: Even with "acpi=ht" openSUSE - on another partition of the same computer - openSUSE 11.1 boots normally without delay.
problem is caused by USB webcam, see bug 559306
Fixed as dup. See Bug #559306 Comment #10 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 559306 ***
This is NOT a duplicate, I have no camera and it happens. I have a usb printer and usb keyboard only. There was NO problem with 11.0 Len
(In reply to comment #10) > This is NOT a duplicate, I have no camera and it happens. > I have a usb printer and usb keyboard only. There was NO > problem with 11.0 What version of the kernel are you running? You need to be running 2.6.31.12-0.1 or higher.
uname -r gives 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop I just see no errors in any logs. I can't see what driver it's trying to load , but, can't! I've tried all the tricks in my bag but nothing helps. I noticed a different fstab 11.0 used /dev/mapper/nvidia....... 11.2 uses /dev/disk-by-id/raid-nvidia....... The system is a gateway fx5642s, w/vista. Len
Len- Please file a new bug against openSUSE and provide the hwinfo for your machine. This doesn't seem related to this bug.
