Bugzilla – Bug 561146
switch from XDM to LXDM for XFCE and "X minimal installation"
Last modified: 2011-01-11 17:44:00 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; it; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-3.1 Firefox/3.5.5 xdm is a very lightweight login manager, but it's actually really ugly and not easy to use. i suggest to switch to LXDM as default login manager. it's lightweight (LXDE default one) and depends only on gtk pam and ConsoleKit Reproducible: Always
What's still missing for that? Support for lxdm has been added to /etc/init.d/xdm, so it should be sufficient for the Minimal+X and Xfce installation to set DISPLAYMANAGER to "lxdm" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, right? I don't feel responsible for doing that. :-)
of course we should add lxdm to OSS first (possibly all lxde enviroment the biggest package is 1MB) after that yes.. if no security patches are required change /etc&sysconfig/displaymanager should be enougth. i wasn's sure if put this as X.org or usability...
Ok. Reassigning to Usability.
how is usability supposed to set the default dm to something that does not exist?
this has been done for lxde in openSUSE 11.3 evaluating to do so for xfce in openSUSE 11.4
The XFCE pattern has now been switched to GDM which provides a superset of the functionality of LXDM.
