Bugzilla – Bug 577411
KDE live-cd for x86-64 wont show the installation GUI
Last modified: 2010-02-26 07:59:46 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091222 SUSE/3.5.7-1.1.1 Firefox/3.5.7 After downloading the image from http://software.opensuse.org/developer I burned it to a CD and attempted to boot it. While everything seems to go fine where there normally is a screen that asks for the keyboard settings there is now just a black screen. On the first boot it was actually a pink screen, after that I rebooted an used 'check install media' option, which checked out fine. Then the boot after that for another installation attempt came up with a black screen. The cursor does show up and can be moved, the rest of the screen however is just one color without any buttons. This is on a Compal laptop with a NVIDIA 9600GT M videocard. Reproducible: Always
I honestly do not fully understand your report. So where does the black screen occur? > While everything seems to go fine > where there normally is a screen that asks for the keyboard settings there is > now just a black screen. So the KDE desktop of the Live CD loads fine and when you try to install it you get a black screen?
Is this bug 577140?
Although I can not confirm it is the same exact bug I did experience this bug after installing it from the DVD instead of the KDE Live CD-ROM. Also I had the 'strange colors' persist after the log in screen. As in the entire OS was near unusable due to being nearly unreadable, I resolved this by installing the official proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
Created attachment 342425 [details] Screenshot illustrating the step the bug occurs at. (Obviously with an older version as a black screen isn't too useful) As for the original problem which I'm guessing is related. At the step on the screenshot, pretty much the first 'graphical' step I had nothing but a black (or pink) screen when booting the KDE x86-64 Live CD-ROM into 'Installation' mode. (Just to reconfirm, the 'Check Installation Media' checked out okay)
